  • Publication number: 20120324793
Abstract: A vehicle compartment closure apparatus is provided. The closure apparatus includes a frame member and a door. The frame member is configured to be operably coupled to the vehicle contiguous with the compartment. The frame member is further configured to be operably coupled to a plurality of single and dual door configurations. The door is coupled to the frame member. At a first operational mode, the door and the frame member are rotatable about a first axis between an open position and a closed position. At a second operational mode, the door is rotatable about a second axis between an open position and a closed position, and the frame member does not move with the door.

  • Patent number: 6959948
Abstract: A gimp made of flexible, compressible material attaches an edge of a trim piece to a panel. The gimp is bonded to the panel without visual gaps between the gimp and the panel. The gimp has a slip connection to the trim piece. The slip connection is provided by a slot in the gimp slidably receiving the edge of the trim piece.

  • Patent number: 6357972
Abstract: A cutting tool for locating an axis in a first member and cutting a sized hole in a second member overlying the first member. The cutting tool includes a base assembly and a cutter assembly which may be used independently of the base assembly. The cutter assembly includes a guide member, a cutting blade and a handle structure with a face portion. The guide member is coupled to the handle structure and extends from the face portion. The cutting blade is coupled to the handle structure such that the cutting blade extends from the face portion and is spaced radially outward of the guide member. The base assembly has a base structure, a stem member and a pilot aperture. The base structure has a first side adapted to contact the second member and a distal side adapted to contact the first member. The stem member is coupled to the distal side of the base structure and is adapted to engage a hole in the first member to locate the axis in the first member.

  • Patent number: 6324948
Abstract: A tool for coupling a striker structure to a vehicle body structure in operative alignment with a latch mechanism coupled to a door structure. The tool includes a body locating portion and first and second fixture portions. The body locating portion selectively couples the tool to the vehicle body structure. The first fixture portion is coupled to the body locating portion and includes a post member for engaging a latch ratchet of the latch mechanism and an outrigger structure for engaging the door structure to thereby limit an amount by which the tool may rotate about the post member. The second fixture portion may be coupled to one of the body fixture portion and the first fixture portion. The second fixture portion includes a plate member and a latch clamp. The plate member has a slot for receiving the leg member of the striker structure with the slot having a proximal end and a generally open distal end.

  • Patent number: 6209935
Abstract: The present invention provides an adjustable fascia for a bumper of a vehicle which has an upper fascia member and a lower fascia member detachably connected to the upper fascia member. The lower member can be adjusted relative to the upper member to maintain the uniformity and consistency of the gap. In another aspect of the present invention, the adjustable fascia has an upper fascia member having an upper series of alternating indentations and protrusions positioned along a face of the upper fascia. Likewise, the lower fascia member has a lower series of alternating indentations and protrusions. The lower series is positioned on a face of the lower fascia and is adapted to physically communicate with the upper series such that the indentations of the lower series receive the protrusions of the upper series and the indentations of the upper series receive the protrusions of the lower series.

  • Patent number: 6138337
Abstract: The tool of the present invention includes a body portion, a coupling portion and a gauging portion. The coupling portion is coupled to the body portion and includes a beam member and a tool centering structure. The beam member is adapted to engage the latch ratchet of a latch mechanism and the tool centering structure is adapted to engage either the latch mechanism or the closure member to which the latch mechanism is coupled. The coupling portion maintains the body portion in a predetermined orientation relative to the latch ratchet. The gauging portion is adapted to contact a striker structure when the tool is coupled to the latch mechanism and the closure member is moved toward the closed position. Depending upon the configuration of the gauging portion, one or more indicator lights may be employed to notify the technician of the out-of-tolerance condition. Alternately, the gauging portion may be configured to permit the technician to obtain variable data on the position of the striker structure.
