  • Publication number: 20230211490
Abstract: An oscillating power tool includes an outer housing, and an inner housing positioned within the outer housing. A motor and a drive mechanism are supported by the inner housing. The drive mechanism includes an output shaft that is rotational in an oscillating manner and that defines an output axis. A damping element is positioned between the inner housing and the outer housing through which the inner housing is mounted to the outer housing, thereby attenuating vibration transmitted to the outer housing from the inner housing. An over-travel limit member is positioned between the inner housing and the outer housing. In response to relative movement between the inner housing and the outer housing while the power tool is in use, the limit member is configured to prevent direct contact between the inner housing and the outer housing, inhibiting vibration produced by the motor and/or drive mechanism from bypassing the damping element.

  • Publication number: 20230017671
Abstract: An orbital sander includes a housing, a drive unit within the housing having an electric motor defining a rotational axis, and a drive shaft coupled for co-rotation with the motor about the rotational axis having a fan rotatably coupled to the lower portion of the drive shaft. The fan includes a main body having a plurality of fan blades, an upper counterweight located on one side of the main body and a lower counterweight located on an opposite side of the main body for balancing the operation of the fan, and an interruption region located opposite the lower counterweight with fan blades located within the interruption region having a reduced mass. The orbital sander further includes a baseplate for selectively mounting a sanding sheet that is coupled to the lower portion of the drive shaft for orbital rotation about the rotational axis.

  • Publication number: 20220347829
Abstract: An oscillating power tool has a housing including a handle portion defining a handle axis and a head portion defining an output axis that is perpendicular to the handle axis. The head portion includes a front face intersected by the handle axis. A drive mechanism includes an output shaft configured to oscillate about the output axis in a rotational manner in response receiving torque from a motor. A lighting assembly is configured to illuminate a workpiece in front of the head portion of the housing. The lighting assembly includes a lens arranged on the front face of the housing, a holder coupled to the lens, a plurality of printed circuit boards supported by the holder, and an LED arranged on each of the printed circuit boards. In response to being activated, the LEDs are configured to project a wide-angle beam of light through the lens.

  • Publication number: 20220021266
Abstract: An electric motor including a stator, a rotor that is at least partially received within the stator and that has a rotor shaft, and a bearing. The bearing has an inner race that is coupled to the rotor shaft, and an outer race. The motor also includes a bearing mount that has a pocket in which the outer race is at least partially received, and a clamp assembly that is configured to apply a clamping force to the inner race and to thereby rotationally unitize the inner race with the rotor shaft. An interface element positioned is between the outer race and the bearing mount. The interface element is configured to apply a frictional force to the outer race to prevent rotation of the outer race relative to the bearing mount in response to rotation of the rotor shaft.
