  • Publication number: 20240426753
Abstract: Provided are methods and compositions for assessing a surface to be ready for subsequent treatment. A photoluminescent dye is used in the rinsing stage by mixing it with water and a non-fugitive chemical/inhibitor, leaving a film on the surface. Alternatively, the surface is treated with an acidifier solution containing a photoluminescent dye to ensure complete coverage. The surface is rinsed with an alkaline solution including a fugitive chemical to indicate complete removal of the gel. The dye emits photoluminescence under UV light, indicating film thickness. In the evaluation stage, an inspector checks photoluminescence. Photoluminescence intensity to determine readiness for treatment. If the surface fails, the surface is rinsed further with water to remedy the failure. Otherwise, the surface is subject to subsequent treatment. Semi-durable coatings requiring additional application can be identified by weak or lack of photoluminescent intensity.

  • Patent number: 12054642
Abstract: A coating composition includes a first composition comprising a polymeric binder comprising a hyperbranched polymer or a polymer comprising a covalently bonded surfactant; a second composition comprising a coagulating agent; and an additive comprising an intumescent agent, a vibration damping agent, an insulation agent, or a combination of two or more thereof; wherein: the additive is present in the first composition, the second composition, or both the first and second compositions; the intumescent agent comprises an acid source, a carbon source, and a gas forming agent; the vibration damping agent comprises a first filler; the insulation agent comprises a second filler; and the first composition and the second composition are configured to form a coating within 30 seconds of application to a substrate, and the coating is non-sagging, water-resistant, and dry-to-the touch.

  • Publication number: 20230220239
Abstract: The present technology provides a UV curable coating composition, methods for forming a photocured coating on a substrate, and articles that include a substrate and a photocured coating. The UV curable coating composition includes an ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable compound, a functionalized siloxane compound, and optionally a micronized inorganic particle(s). The cured coating may provide improved dirt and/or brake dust pick-up resistance.

  • Publication number: 20070243397
Abstract: An essentially chromium(VI)-free, chromium(III)-containing corrosion resistant conversion solution, or layer thereof for treating metals such as zinc, zinc alloy, aluminum, or aluminum alloy substrates. The conversion solution, is substantially free of chromium(III)-chelates, is capable of producing thick conversion films even at low temperatures, has good corrosion resistance, and is self healing with regard to scratches and the like.
