  • Patent number: 8618864
Abstract: The active rectifier circuit and related method of operation disclosed herein is self-powered and improves the efficiency and reliability of photovoltaic solar power systems by replacing the conventional bypass and blocking rectifiers used in such systems. The circuit includes a power MOSFET used as a switch between the anode and cathode terminals, and control circuitry that turns on the MOSFET when the anode voltage is greater than the cathode voltage. The method of operation utilizes resonance to produce a large periodic voltage waveform from the small anode-to-cathode dc voltage drop, and then converts the period voltage waveform to a dc voltage to drive the gate of the power MOSFET.

  • Publication number: 20130200710
Abstract: A solar power module, and related method of operation, that protects the bypass diodes in the solar power module from overheating due to partial shading, and also protects firefighters and installer personnel from electrical shock hazard. The solar power module includes active bypass switches, and isolation switches that disconnect the PV cells from the bypass switches when all the bypass switches are closed concurrently, thereby allowing the PV cells to continue supplying power to the control circuitry. The isolation switches are also used to maintain the solar power module in a safe state during installation, or in case of fire.

  • Publication number: 20130092208
Abstract: A system and apparatus for detecting and locating an arc fault in a photovoltaic solar power array. A plurality of capacitors divide strings of photovoltaic cells into a series of magnetic loops. When an arc fault occurs within one of the loops, a time-varying magnetic field is produced, with flux lines emanating from the area enclosed by the loop. At least three magnetic field sensors arranged at locations in or around the solar power array detect the spectral signature of the arc fault, and send related data to a computer via a communication network. The computer analyzes the data from the sensors to determine the location of the arc fault.

  • Publication number: 20120318320
Abstract: A system and method for detecting arc faults in photovoltaic solar power arrays. A plurality of short range communications links between the modules in the array are utilized as a distributed arc detection system. The communication links between adjacent pairs of modules in the array form a network with a matrix topology. The links are implemented with modulated magnetic fields. By monitoring the level of noise in each communication link, the signature of an arc fault is detected, and the general location of the arc can often be determined.

  • Publication number: 20100199453
Abstract: A wireless particle collection system includes a dust collector and at least one power tool coupled to the dust collector. The power tool is associated with a unique identifier contained in a wireless signal transmitted from the power tool upon an activation event of the tool. The unique identifier is recognized by the dust collector, and the dust collector activates or de-activates upon receipt of the wireless signal.

  • Publication number: 20100180838
Abstract: An internal combustion engine that includes an engine block assembly, an air intake system coupled to the engine block assembly and an alternative fuel delivery system coupled to the air intake system. The alternative fuel delivery system includes a control module that monitors measurements of operational data of the internal combustion engine from the one or more sensors. In response to the operational data, the control module determines a fuel flow rate of alternative fuel and controls injection of the alternative fuel to provide the determined fuel flow rate of alternative fuel into the air intake system.

  • Publication number: 20070288771
Abstract: A method and apparatus with several embodiments for separating power supplied by two Power Sourcing Equipment (P SE) for Power over Ethernet (PoE) systems, for the purpose of providing power to a two separate Powered Devices (PD) over a single network cable. A first PD runs off power supplied by an endspan PSE, and a second PD runs off power supplied by a midspan PSE. An Ethernet hub, switch, or repeater circuit is also included to allow both PD's to communicate with the endspan PSE.

  • Publication number: 20070284941
Abstract: The invention includes a method and an apparatus with several embodiments for cross-coupling DC power between the data and spare twisted-pairs in a Power over Ethernet (PoE) system. In one embodiment, power output by an endspan Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) on the Alternative-B twisted-pairs (the spare pairs) is DC-coupled to the Alternative-A twisted-pairs (the data pairs), while Ethernet data is AC-coupled straight through, thus allowing an Alt-B endspan PSE to be used in tandem with a midspan PSE to power a dual-load Powered Device (PD). In another embodiment, the transfer of power from Alt-B to Alt-A is performed inside a novel midspan PSE, thus allowing a dual-load PD to be fully powered by cascading two ports of said novel midspan PSE, rather than using an endspan PSE and a midspan PSE in tandem.

  • Publication number: 20070278857
Abstract: A method and apparatus with several embodiments for powering two Powered Devices (PD's) in a Power over Ethernet (PoE) system from a single computer network cable, where the cable is carrying power from both an endspan Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) and a midspan PSE. The apparatus is a special type of PD that resides in the middle of the link segment and is hence referred to as a “mid-link PD”. The mid-link PD utilizes power from one PSE and passes power from the other PSE along to another PD at the end of the link segment: This eliminates the need to install additional network cabling in order to power a second PD in a location where a first PD is already receiving power.

  • Patent number: 5286845
Abstract: The present invention relates to the conversion of tall oil soap to produce crude tall oil. An aqueous tall oil soap solution generated in a kraft wood-pulping process is placed in contact with carbon dioxide, under pressure, to form crude tall oil and sodium bicarbonate brine. The crude tall oil and sodium bicarbonate brine are then allowed to separate, under pressure, into a crude tall oil layer and a sodium bicarbonate brine layer. The crude tall oil layer is then separated from the sodium bicarbonate brine layer, again under pressure. The separated crude tall oil may then be further refined to yield fatty acids, resin acids, and other constituents, which are useful in numerous industrial applications, such as in soaps, lubricants, inks, adhesives, and coatings.
