  • Patent number: 8588849
Abstract: A system and method of resuming media playback on a mobile device can include playing media on a mobile device and outputting audio associated with the playing media to an audio output device. The media can be paused in response to receiving an interrupt request. A play request can be received to resume playing of the media on the mobile device. A determination can be made as to whether the audio output device is communicatively coupled to the mobile device. The media can resume play in response to the audio output device being communicatively coupled to the mobile device. In another implementation, media can resume play if a determination is made that the audio output device outputting the audio associated with the media before the interrupt request is the same audio output device that will output audio associated with the media after the interrupt request.

  • Publication number: 20110302493
Abstract: An apparatus and method for shuffling a media file in a playlist. A first playlist order of a plurality of media files is created for displaying a plurality of icons corresponding to one of the plurality of media files. The plurality icons are arranged according to the first playlist order on the display. Upon receiving a request for a second playlist order a second playlist order is created. While displaying the plurality of icons in the first playlist order, movement of at least two icons on the display is shown between a first position and a second position, wherein the first position corresponds to the first playlist order and the second position corresponds to the second playlist order.

  • Publication number: 20110199322
Abstract: Methods and devices are described pertaining to graphical user interfaces that enable users to manage and play their media content on a portable electronic device. For example, a method is described in which a first source icon associated with a first set of media selections is displayed and a second source icon associated with a second set of media selections is also displayed. In addition, a first function icon indicative of a first function is superimposed on the first source icon, and a second function icon indicative of a second function is superimposed on the second source icon. A selection input associated with either of the first source icon or the second source icon is received and the first function is executed when the selection input is associated with the first icon, and the second function is executed when the selection input is associated with the second icon.

  • Publication number: 20110201388
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer-readable medium is disclosed for prominent selection cues for icons. When an icon is in focus, and after expiration of a predetermined period of time, the icon can be displayed more prominently, e.g., display a larger representation of the icon, thereby increasing the icon's visibility. The icon can be displayed more prominently after the icon remains in focus for a predetermined amount of time. This functionality can be advantageous in applications having limited display area, such as on portable media players and mobile devices. Accordingly, the smaller display area of such devices is used more effectively by using prominent selection cues for navigating and displaying information.
