  • Publication number: 20100094654
Abstract: An implantable device to store electronic medical records (EMR) is described. The implantable medical records (IMR) device has read/write capabilities and incorporates a battery, integrated circuits, transceiving functionality and storage medium. The device is implanted subcutaneously through minimally invasive surgery in the desired location in the patient. The patient's medical records are then stored and updated on the device and are available to authorized health care professionals via the external components of the system. The external components of the system include a reader/programmer with transceiving functionality and required interface software so that authorized health care professionals may extract the medical records on the device as well as write to the device as necessary to keep the health records in the IMR device up-to-date.
