  • Publication number: 20200346674
Abstract: A locomotive control method includes wirelessly communicating from at least one wireless transmitter positioned proximate a railroad crossing to a wireless locomotive receiver of a locomotive, either directly or indirectly via a wireless wayside transceiver, an indication if the railroad crossing is clear for passage of the locomotive through the railroad crossing, and receiving by the locomotive receiver the indication wirelessly communicated by the at least one portable transmitter. A locomotive controller or an operator of the locomotive can determine, based on the indication received by the locomotive receiver from the at least one portable transmitter, if it is safe for the locomotive to travel through the railroad crossing. The locomotive 4 can then be operated based on the determination.

  • Publication number: 20200204181
Abstract: In a general aspect, a quantum logic gate is performed in a quantum computing system. In some cases, a pair of qubits are defined in a quantum processor; the pair of qubits can include a first qubit defined by a first qubit device in the quantum processor and a second qubit defined by a tunable qubit device in the quantum processor. A quantum logic gate can be applied to the pair of qubits by communicating a control signal to a control line coupled to the tunable qubit device. The control signal can be configured to modulate a transition frequency of the tunable qubit device at a modulation frequency, and the modulation frequency can be determined based on a transition frequency of the first qubit device.

  • Publication number: 20200170096
Abstract: A load control system controls an electrical load provided in a space and comprises a load control device and one or more occupancy sensors. The load control device controls the load in response to the wireless control signals received from the occupancy sensors. Each occupancy sensor transmits an occupied control signal to the load control device in response to detecting an occupancy condition in the space and a vacant control signal to the load control device in response to detecting a vacancy condition. The load control device turns on the load in response to receiving the occupied control signal from at least one of the occupancy sensors, and turns off the load in response to receiving vacant control signals from both of the occupancy sensors. The load control device is operable to determine that no wireless control signals have been received from the occupancy sensors for the length of a predetermined timeout period and to subsequently turn off the load.

  • Publication number: 20200158815
Abstract: In a method of determining the location of a locomotive when GPS signals are not available, triangulation between one or two radio transmitters and, respectively, two or one radio receivers mounted on the train can be used. In the method, the distance between each radio transmitter and each radio receiver can be determined according a number of cycles of the radio signal generated by the radio transmitter that are received/counted by the radio receiver. The radio signal can also have modulated thereon the geographical location of the radio transmitter, which location can be demodulated by the radio receiver. Utilizing the demodulated geographical location of each radio transmitter and the distance between the radio transmitter and each radio receiver, triangulation can be used to determine the geographical location of the train.

  • Publication number: 20200070801
Abstract: A vehicle control system and method include one or more processors that determine that a vehicle has or will have insufficient energy to power a propulsion system of the vehicle under a first set of operational settings to move the vehicle from a first location to a designated second location that is outside of an unpowered segment of a route along which the vehicle moves. Responsive to determining that the vehicle has or will have insufficient energy, the one or more processors change one or more of a throttle setting or a brake setting of the vehicle to operate the vehicle under a second set of operational settings while the vehicle moves within a powered segment of the route.

  • Patent number: 10390520
Abstract: A bird feeder cable lid lock is provided for a bird feeder having a feed reservoir body with a removable lid having an aperture therein, and a wire or cable threaded through the aperture by which the feeder is suspended in use. The cable lid lock includes a threaded bolt having an axial hole through which the hanging cable is fed and an internally threaded base element in abutment with the lid and having a stepped or tapered bore with a diminishing diameter that receives the bolt. The bolt has a relief cut in the shank to form at least two arms on different sides of the cable. The arms are pressed toward one another as the bolt is tightened into the diminishing diameter base element bore, squeezing the cable where it extends through the bolt and exerting a significant force normal to the cable that, with the coefficient of friction, creates a very effective locking action on the cable to secure the lid against the feed reservoir body.

  • Publication number: 20190099231
Abstract: A surgical tool includes a drive housing and an elongate shaft extending from the drive housing. A wrist couples an end effector to the elongate shaft and includes a distal clevis having a first axle that rotatably mounts the end effector to the distal clevis, and a proximal clevis coupled to the elongate shaft and having a second axle that rotatably mounts the distal clevis to the proximal clevis. A plurality of drive cables extend between the drive housing and the end effector, and movement of the drive cables causes the end effector to articulate about a first pivot axis extending through the first axle. A power axle cable extending from the drive housing and mounted to the distal clevis such that movement of the power axle cable correspondingly pivots the end effector about a second pivot axis at the second axle.

  • Publication number: 20190047691
Abstract: A propulsion assembly for a rotorcraft includes a mast and a proprotor hub assembly coupled to the mast and having a gimballing degree of freedom relative to the mast. The propulsion assembly includes a gimbal lock assembly positioned about the mast and including a plurality of radially outwardly extending and circumferentially distributed rollers. The gimbal lock assembly is movable between a disengaged position and an engaged position relative to the proprotor hub assembly.
