    Abstract: An apparatus for and method of disinfecting the interior surfaces of barrels and destroying microorganisms is disclosed. In one embodiment, an ultrasonic apparatus includes a sonotrode encased in a sheath, placed within a bunghole of a barrel. An ultrasonic generator is connected to the sonotrode. The ultrasonic apparatus also includes an ultrasonic transducer connected to the ultrasonic generator and associated with the sonotrode.
