  • Patent number: 11931801
Abstract: A multi-grain selector device includes an outer body having exterior surfaces. The outer body includes a cooling side configured to face a cooling plate of a casting furnace and an opposite mold side configured to face into a mold. The outer body includes an array of multiple grain selector columns each formed from two or more transversely oriented, elongated channels that are fluidly coupled with each other in an end-to-end arrangement oriented along a growth direction that extends from the cooling side of the outer body toward the mold side of the outer body. The selector columns extend to growth openings on the mold side of the outer body. Each of the selector columns is configured to form a single grain column out of the corresponding growth opening that is part of a columnar grained article to be formed in the mold that grows along the growth direction.

  • Publication number: 20140275706
Abstract: A computer-implemented method for generating and/or delivering a radiation treatment plan is provided. The method comprises reading a modular radiation dose kernel that defines a three dimensional radiation isocenter dose formed from a sum of a plurality of radiation beams, reading serial slice data that define three dimensional closed surfaces representing a lesion, critical structure, or organ and generating a radiation treatment plan based on the radiation kernel file and the data that defines the three dimensional closed surface. The treatment plan can be translated for use by virtually any automated radiation delivery device.

  • Publication number: 20070101818
Abstract: A method of shifting gears in a work machine includes modulating an oncoming clutch pressure via a first segment of a predetermined curve, and modulating the clutch pressure via a second segment of the predetermined curve after the occurrence of a predetermined relative velocity state of a work machine transmission. A work machine having an electronic controller with an embedded shifting control algorithm that includes means for modulating the oncoming clutch pressure via a first segment of a predetermined curve, and via a second segment of a predetermined curve having a net slope different from the first segment after the occurrence of a predetermined relative velocity state of the work machine transmission.

  • Publication number: 20060219509
Abstract: A method for controlling engagement of a clutch in a work machine includes determining a relative speed of the clutch of the work machine and selectively adjusting an actuation pressure applied to the clutch based at least in part on the clutch relative speed.

  • Publication number: 20060009338
Abstract: A paperboard cup is provided having a polyethylene terepthalate film exterior surface. An inner surface of the paperboard substrate has an extrusion applied polyolefin coating. The side seam region of the cup is heat sealed in association with a polyethylenimine primer layer present within the sealed area. The process and resulting cup provides for a side seam seal having excellent tear strength properties which may be formed using conventional cup-forming equipment and sealing processes. The PET film layer may define a metallized or holographic substrate which enables an improved appearance to the cup exterior.

  • Patent number: 6616861
Abstract: Absorbing oxygen from a closed space at a rapid rate, particularly in food packaging, is made possible by introducing an alcohol-water mixture as an activator for iron-based absorber systems, preferably including an acid to control pH. Preferred alcohols are aliphatic alcohols, particularly, monohydric alkanols, such as methanol, ethanol, n-propanol, isopropanol, sec-butanol and t-butanol. Such absorber-activator combinations are capable of rapidly reducing the oxygen in a closed package. A preferred acid is orthophosphoric acid used in an amount sufficient to establish a pH of about 0.6 to 4. A preferred iron-based absorber system employs sponge iron, optionally including a dibasic acid cooperating with the orthophosphoric acid to control pH in the system. In one preferred embodiment, the iron-based absorber is pre-activated by contacting with the activator in the substantial absence of oxygen for a predetermined period of time.
