  • Publication number: 20140234934
Abstract: A process for converting biomass into high value energy products is provided comprising the steps of: debarking, chipping, and screening wood; separating a plurality of hemicellulose from a plurality of cellulose and lignin; hydrolyzing the plurality of hemicellulose into monosaccharides; fermenting the monosaccharides using immobilized Pachysolen tannophilus; removing the lignin from the plurality of cellulose and lignin; and making a paper pulp from the plurality of cellulose.
    Type: Application
    Filed: February 7, 2014
    Publication date: August 21, 2014
Inventors: Jeffrey T. Harvey, Timothy P. Spilchen, Andrew W. Flemming, Lisa Beckler Andersen, John H. Evans, IV, Christine A. Singer
  • Publication number: 20120301939
Abstract: A process for producing biofuel from biomass that includes free monosaccharides is provided. The process comprises the steps of mixing the biomass with a recycled hydrolysate for a sufficient time to elute a portion of the free monosaccharides from the biomass thereby forming a sugar enriched hydrolysate. Sugar enriched hydrolysate is then separated from the biomass and monosaccharides contained in the separated sugar enriched hydrolysate are fermented.
    Type: Application
    Filed: May 23, 2011
    Publication date: November 29, 2012
    Inventors: J. T. Harvey, Andrew W. Flemming
