Patent number: 11995253Abstract: A controller may have an input device and a sensor adjacent to the input device. The input device may be a touch sensor, a touch screen display, a button, a rotatable knob, or other device that gathers user input. The input device may be reachable by different users occupying different respective seats. The sensor may be an infrared optical sensor that emits infrared light and measures the emitted infrared light after the emitted infrared light has reflected from the hand of a user. The sensor may determine from these hand measurements which of the different users is supplying user input to the input device. Hand distance information and other information on the current user of the input device may also be gathered. The input device may be deployed by an actuator based on hand speed information.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 2023Date of Patent: May 28, 2024Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Arian Behzadi, Jeffrey A Sewell, Andrew W Kooker, Kurt R Stiehl

Publication number: 20230417096Abstract: A system may have a closure with an electrically controlled actuator. Sensor circuitry may gather user input. The sensor circuitry may include a force sensor, touch sensor, proximity sensor, and/or other sensors. Based on input from the sensor circuitry, the closure may be slid relative to a system body or may otherwise be moved relative to the body. The sensor may receive user input from a user's fingers. This allows the movement of the closure to track user hand motions. To open and close the closure, a user may press against closure edge sensors mounted to edges of the closure. Closure motion may also be controlled by button press input, proximity sensor readings, touch sensor input and/or other user input provided to an input device in the system.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 30, 2023Publication date: December 28, 2023Inventors: Arian Behzadi, Arto Kivila, Jeffrey A Sewell, Kurt R Stiehl, Andrew W Kooker, Athena Y Huang, Kevin S Chan

Patent number: 11603074Abstract: A safety belt presentation system includes a safety belt presentation track extending from a first position to a second position spaced from the first position, a latch that includes a tongue disposed between a first side of the latch and second side of the latch and a first coupling portion, and a driving mechanism that includes a second coupling portion configured to releasably couple the first coupling portion of the latch. The driving mechanism is configured to control the latch to move from the first position to the second position along the safety belt presentation track when the first and second coupling portions are coupled.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 2022Date of Patent: March 14, 2023Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: Philipp Charopoulos, Lukas Satas, John J. Baker, Jonathon R. Folks, Andrew W. Kooker

Patent number: 10889261Abstract: A system includes a first anchor that is disposed adjacent an upper portion of a seat back and that is selectively positionable between a first position on a first axis and a second position along the first axis. The system further includes a second anchor disposed adjacent a lower portion of the seat back. The second anchor is selectively coupled to the first anchor. The system further includes a third anchor disposed adjacent the lower portion of the seat back, the third anchor being selectively coupled to the second anchor and separated by a distance on a second axis from the second anchor. The first anchor, the second anchor, and the third anchor are jointly positionable when the second anchor is coupled to the first anchor and when the third anchor is coupled to the second anchor.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 2018Date of Patent: January 12, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Philipp Charopoulos, Lukas Satas, John J. Patent number: 10300832Abstract: A method for storing cargo items includes determining characteristics of a cargo space, where the cargo space includes at least one seat and the at least one seat is capable of being moved between a first position within the cargo space and a second position within the cargo space. A set of cargo items including one or more cargo items to be positioned in the cargo space is determined. A configuration of the cargo space is determined based at least in part on the set of cargo items, where the configuration of the cargo space includes the second position of the at least one seat. A layout of the set of cargo items within the cargo space is determined based at least in part on the set of cargo items and the determined configuration, and the at least one seat is moved from the first position to the second position.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 2017Date of Patent: May 28, 2019Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: Jonathon Folks, John J. Baker, Jun Wooung Jeong, Andrew W. Kooker, Craig Ogden, Lukas Satas, David Yates
