    Abstract: Additive manufacturing apparatus including a build module is presented. The build module includes a support structure; a powder supply chamber formed in the support structure; and powder applicator disposed on the support structure and located proximate to the powder supply chamber. The build module further includes a powder recovery chamber and a plurality of build plates spatially disposed around the powder recovery chamber, the plurality of build plates configured to move around the powder recovery chamber. The build module is configured such that during an additive manufacturing process step, a build plate of the plurality of build plates is disposed between the powder supply chamber and the powder recovery chamber, and the powder applicator is configured to distribute a required amount of the powder material from the powder supply chamber on the build plate and deposit any excess powder material in the powder recovery chamber. The described approaches improve performance by supporting the RLE decompression function within a processor and/or external block. Specifically, a RLE decompression hardware implementation is disclosed that produces a 64-bit RLE decompression result, with an example embodiment performing the task in two pipelined execution stages with a throughput of one per cycle. According to embodiments, hardware organization of narrow-width shifters operating in parallel, controlled by computed shift counts, is used to perform the decompression.

    Abstract: A method of fabricating an airfoil includes forming a tip portion and imaging a second end of a body portion to obtain image data of one or more mortises formed therein. One or more tenons are formed on the first end of the tip portion using the image data of the second end of the body portion. The one or more tenons are manufactured using one of additive or subtractive manufacturing techniques. To complete assembly, the first end of the tip portion is positioned relative to the second end of the body portion such that each of the one or more tenons of the tip portion align with and are in sliding engagement with a respective one of the one or more mortises of the body portion. The body portion and the tip portion are coupled together such that the tip portion and the body portion form the airfoil. An airfoil formed by the method is also disclosed.
