  • Patent number: 6847830
Abstract: A device for providing wireless communication is disclosed. The device includes an antenna mounted on a personal computer card. The antenna has a pivotal connection for pivoting the antenna and a rotatable connection for rotating the antenna in a direction which differs from the direction of rotation. The antenna is rotatable about two axes and is retractable. In the extended position, the antenna is electrically connected with the personal computer card and can receive and transmit signals. The antenna also has a base which is detachably mounted to the personal computer card so that the antenna can be removed from said personal computer card and replaced.

  • Patent number: 6697030
Abstract: A tunable dual band antenna system is disclosed. The system includes a transceiver, a matching network and an antenna. The matching network is operable to tune the antenna to the transceiver at both a first and second frequency. Accordingly, the matching network has a variable capacitor, an inductor and a second capacitor. The value of the variable capacitor is chosen to tune the antenna at the first frequency and the second frequency such that the system can be used to transmit and receive electromagnetic energy over two bandwidths. The values of the variable capacitor, the inductor, and the second capacitor are chosen to minimize the standing wave ratio of the system at both the first frequency and the second frequency.

  • Publication number: 20030030591
Abstract: The present invention provides a sleeved dipole antenna for radio wave communications, wherein the antenna includes a lossy material disposed about a coaxial feed line. The lossy material in combination with a lower radiator attenuates noise transmitted to the antenna through a ground.

  • Patent number: 6339405
Abstract: A dual band antenna structure for transmission electromagnetic energy in two frequency bands. The antenna structure has a substrate with a first side having a first dipole radiating element and a second dipole radiating element. The lengths of the dipole radiating elements are chosen to transmit the first and second frequencies. The antenna structure further includes a first dipole ground disposed in substantially mirror-image relation to the first dipole radiating element and a second dipole ground disposed in substantially mirror-image relation to the second dipole radiating element. The first and second dipole radiating elements are electrically connected to a transformer formed on the first side of the substrate. Electromagnetic energy fed to the transformer in the first frequency band is transmitted by the first dipole radiating element while electromagnetic energy fed to the transformer in the second frequency band is transmitted by the second dipole radiating element.

  • Patent number: 6191741
Abstract: An extendable antenna for a personal computer card uses two main antenna elements. A movable antenna element can be positioned in an extended position such that the base of the second antenna element electrically contacts the top of the other antenna element. The antenna in the extended position is connected to the antenna port through matching circuitry. In a closed position of the antenna, the second antenna element is electrically connected to the antenna port bypassing the matching circuitry. In one embodiment, the antenna is a quarter-wave length antenna in the closed position and a half-wave length antenna in the extended position.
