  • Patent number: 8009587
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a wireless infrastructure node configured to receive a discovery message from a wireless control device, and reply to the wireless control device with a connection request if the wireless infrastructure node is not statically assigned to another wireless control device and the wireless infrastructure node is not being managed by another wireless control device.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 27, 2007
Date of Patent: August 30, 2011
    Assignee: Broadcom Corporation
Inventors: Andrey L. Tsigler, Kishore B. Padmanabha, Dana L. Fowler, Murali K. Policharla
  • Patent number: 7895364
Abstract: Embodiments of this invention comprise a modular, scalable architecture for building a variety of Layer 2/3/4+ Ethernet products and devices. Such devices or units can be attached to form an homogenous systems called stack. The invention provides a set of rules to handle such stack. The rules are controlled by the architectural component named Unit Manager. The Unit Manager uses a protocol to discover the units that are entering or leaving the system/stack. The protocol's data provides a unique way of identifying the units that belong to the system stack.

    Assignee: Broadcom Corporation
Inventors: Alejandro Emilio Vásquez, Andrey L. Tsigler, Hassan Elmosallamy Ibrahim Hassan, Katherine Marie McDowell
  • Patent number: 7716386
Abstract: Embodiments of this invention comprise a modular, scalable architecture for building a variety of Layer 2/3/4+ Ethernet products and devices. Such devices comprise of a set modules. The invention provides a set of rules to handle such modules. The rules are controlled by the architectural component named card manager. The card manager uses a protocol to discover the modules that are entering or leaving the system/device. The protocol's data provides a unique way of identifying the modules that belong to the system.

  • Publication number: 20080107071
Abstract: In order to achieve improved performance for users on a wireless network, it is desirable to reduce interference between wireless access points (APs or WAPs) by selectively assigning different channels to the radios of the APs in a-neighborhood. This may be performed by process whereby a central controller automatically assigns channels to one or more APs managed by that controller in accordance with a channel selection algorithm that considers received signal strength indication (RSSI) and transmit (Tx) or receive (Rx) error rates on channels of the radios. The algorithm also takes into account any stand-alone APs in the network (i.e., not connected to the network) and assigns the channels to managed APs in such a way as to avoid interference with the stand-alone APs.
