  • Patent number: 12343221
Abstract: A system including a tool recognition assembly comprising a first target reader with a first detection zone. The system also includes a tool configured to be installed in the tool recognition assembly, wherein the first reader detects a first reading indicating a presence or absence of the first target in the first detection zone during an installation of the tool in the tool recognition assembly, the detected first reading being at least a part of a detected insertion signature, and provides the detected insertion signature to initiate a comparison of the detected insertion signature to one or more model signatures.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 9, 2019
Date of Patent: July 1, 2025
    Assignee: INTUITIVE SURGICAL OPERATIONS, INC.
Inventors: Andrey Polonsky, Eric J. Earnst, Jean-Marc Gery, Andrew J. Hazelton, Sarah A. Nichols
  • Patent number: 12232694
Abstract: A method of operating an imaging system includes reducing common-mode current induced on a cable connected between an imaging system and an endoscope by utilizing a common-mode choke between the cable and a circuit within the endoscope, the common-mode choke being mounted within a body of the endoscope.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 19, 2021
Date of Patent: February 25, 2025
    Assignee: Intuitive Surgical Operations, Inc.
Inventors: Alan W. Petersen, Bryan E. Blair, Andrey Polonsky
  • Publication number: 20250049502
Abstract: Methods and systems for redundant power detection, including forward power and reverse power, utilize sensors separate from microwave power sensors. The redundant power detection can be compared to measurements of the microwave power sensors to ensure that the sensors are operating correctly.

  • Publication number: 20240081915
Abstract: A medical system may include an elongated flexible body including a channel extending through the elongated flexible body. The elongated flexible body includes an articulable portion extending along at least a portion of a length of the elongated flexible body. The medical system may include an instrument configured to be received in the channel of the elongated flexible body, a magnetic field generator configured to generate a magnetic field within the channel, and a magnetic field sensor configured to detect the magnetic field generated by the magnetic field generator.

  • Patent number: 11206966
Abstract: An endoscope includes a body and a circuit board mounted within the body. A cable couples the circuit board to an imaging system. A common-mode choke is mounted within the body and is configured to electrically isolate the cable from the body at cautery frequencies. A method includes twisting a plurality of wires together to form a twisted set of wires. The twisted set of wires is wound around a core so that windings do not overlap, and so that a first winding and a last winding are separated from each other. Wires in the twisted set of wires are coupled to a plurality of wires in the cable. Also, these wires in the twisted set of wires are also coupled to the circuit board.
