  • Publication number: 20050005704
Abstract: An instrument and method for variable depth tillage is provided. A soil engaging implement has a pair of load cells and at least one strain gauge set mounted thereon. The load cells are used to determine a linear trend of topsoil resistance pressure change with depth as the soil engaging implement is drawn through the soil. The strain gauges are used to measure torque on the soil engaging implement caused by the load transmitted through the at least two load cells as well as the load applied to the point of the soil engaging implement. The linear trend of topsoil resistance pressure change with depth and the torque on the soil engaging implement are then used to determine both measured and predicted mechanical soil resistance to penetration applied to the point and the difference between the two values serves as an input for tillage depth adjustment.

  • Patent number: 6272819
Abstract: A yield monitor system for determining quantity of harvested sugar cane on a sugar cane harvesting vehicle is disclosed. The vehicle has a harvesting mechanism including a base cutter assembly for severing sugar cane from a field, a chopper assembly for chopping the severed sugar cane into billets, and an elevating assembly for elevating the billets during transport to a storage device, the elevating assembly having an elevator motor coupled to a pressurized hydraulic fluid source. The yield monitor system includes a sensing assembly and a control monitor. The sensing assembly generates a sensed signal representative of a quantity of harvested sugar cane being transported to the storage device. The control monitor receives the sensed signal and determines the quantity of harvested sugar cane therefrom.

  • Patent number: 6212464
Abstract: A slip control system for a work vehicle is disclosed. The work vehicle is supported by a set of inflatable tires. The slip control system may include a true ground speed sensor, a wheel speed sensor, a compressor mounted on the work vehicle, an air manifold connected to the compressor and to the inflatable tires, and a control unit which receives signals from the ground speed sensor and the wheel speed sensor and supplies signals to the air manifold based on the slip seen by the inflatable tires. The slip control system controls the amount of slip seen by the inflatable tires by controlling the inflation in the tires.
