    Abstract: A stirling cycle machine includes a thermal energy exchange apparatus including a first side plate having a plurality of first side pins extending therefrom and a second side plate having a plurality of second side pins extending toward the plurality of first side pins. A regenerator/displacer is positioned between the first side plate and the second side plate. The regenerator/displacer includes a plurality of pin openings, each surrounding a first side pin and a corresponding second side pin. The regenerator/displacer is configured to be driven in a first direction toward the first side plate and in a second direction toward the second side plate. The motion of the regenerator/displacer drives displacement of a working fluid in flow communication with the regenerator/displacer, the first side pins and the second side pins, to urge a thermal energy exchange between the first side pins and the second side pins via the working fluid.

    Abstract: Aircraft and aircraft electric motors include a rotor assembly having a plurality of magnets arranged in magnet Halbach arrays on a magnet support. The magnet support includes a plurality of protrusions defined on surface thereof and each magnet Halbach array includes a respective cut-out notch configured to engage with a respective protrusion. An output shaft is operably coupled to the rotor assembly. A stator having a support structure and at least one winding wrapped about a plurality of stator teeth is configured to generate an electromagnetic field to cause rotation of the rotor assembly. A heat pipe is arranged within each protrusion and configured to transfer heat away from the magnets.

The tapered step horn (SH) has an SH length that extends between an SH first end and an SH second end, a major diameter disposed at the SH first end, a minor diameter disposed at the SH second end, a middle diameter between the SH first end and the SH second end, and an SH exterior surface that extends around an SH circumference of the step horn. The SH second end of the step horn is connected to the UT first end of the ultrasonic tool. The ultrasonic transducer is in communication with the step horn and the ultrasonic tool.

    Abstract: A method of machining ceramic matrix composite components includes providing an ultrasonic vibration tool having a tool tip, and exciting the tool by providing a control current, such that the tool tip is repeatedly vibrated towards and away from a ceramic matrix composite workpiece. A slurry feed is supplied including abrasive particles to a surface to be machined by the tool tip. A vibration amplitude of the tool tip is controlled by sensing load on the tool and communicating with a computing device. The computing device controls the vibration amplitude of the tool tip. The computing device is provided with at least one memory programmed with historic data, and is operable to modify the vibration amplitude signal being sent to the tool, and comparing resulting load levels due to the change in vibration amplitude signals, and storing the change in vibration amplitude signals at the memory.

    Abstract: A method is provided for machining a workpiece. During this machining method, an aperture is formed in the workpiece using a machining system. The machining system includes an ultrasonic machining device, a slurry delivery device and a controller. The forming of the aperture includes delivering a slurry to an interface between the ultrasonic machining device and the workpiece using the slurry delivery device, and transmitting ultrasonic vibrations into the slurry using the ultrasonic machining device. A feedback parameter is monitored during the forming of the aperture using the controller. A slurry delivery parameter for the slurry delivery device is adjusted during the forming of the aperture based on the feedback parameter using the controller.

The power output is related to a vibration amplitude of a tool tip of the ultrasonic vibration tool. A controller connected to an ultrasonic power supply receives the captured power output. The ultrasonic power supply supplies power to the ultrasonic vibration tool. The controller determines the captured power output when it has reached a specified level. A control signal from the controller to the ultrasonic power supply is used to modify the power to the ultrasonic vibration tool.

The condenser can be coupled to a structural element that is part of a movable component of the electromechanical system. The condenser receives heat from the evaporator via the “ribbon” section.
