  • Publication number: 20120086877
Abstract: An electronic display (e.g., a LCD) may be built inside a picture frame. The picture frame may include an opening the same size of the electronic display to enable a viewer to view both the picture frame and the electronic display. The electronic display may include a media player storing the still picture and video data, and a sensor. The electronic display may default to displaying the still picture. However, upon the sensor detecting a person approaching, the still picture may be replaced with a video to be played to the approaching person thereby engaging the person. After the video has been played, the electronic display may return to displaying the still picture until the next approaching person is detected, or alternatively may continue to play video until the sensor detects that there are no persons within the detection range.

  • Patent number: 7467486
Abstract: A plurality of light emitting diodes (LEDs) disposed in a customized housing produce bright colored light simulating the appearance of a neon sign. The housing includes an opaque portion that reflects light from the LEDs and a translucent portion shaped in the form of an image or lettering that diffuses light from the LEDs. The inside surface of the opaque portion has a polished reflective surface while the outside surface has a dull textured surface. Light emanating from the LEDs propagates through the translucent portion of the housing appearing to a viewer as a bright uniform and colorful light similar in appearance to the light emitted from a neon sign.

  • Patent number: 7262707
Abstract: A message sign alert device including a housing having a planar message display window and a first visual alert window positioned on a periphery of the planar message display window. Within the housing are a message display section, a first visual alert section, and a control unit that operates the first visual alert section and the message display section for providing a visual attraction to the display of a message on the message display section. A planar display unit in the message display section includes a plurality of light emitting message elements and projects through the planar message display window at a substantially normal angle to the planar message display window. The first visual alert section has at least one light emitting element positioned adjacent to the first visual alert window for projecting through the first visual alert window at an oblique angle relative to the planar message display window.

  • Patent number: 6271814
Abstract: A dual message advertising display system having a variable electronic display and a fixed printed display formed on a shared display screen. The display screen includes fixed information printed thereon, such as an advertisement, logo, or other message. The display screen further includes a plurality of apertures formed there through to provide visual access to an electronic display positioned behind the display screen. The apertures are formed a predetermined spacing apart from each other so that the fixed information printed on the display screen remains easily perceivable and non-distorted to an onlooker. The predetermined spacing of the apertures is also selected to cause the message appearing on the electronic display to obscure the fixed printed information on the display by causing the onlooker to focus upon the electronic display message when activated.
