  • Patent number: 7731736
Abstract: Bone fixation systems for stabilizing bones such as vertebral bodies are disclosed. The fixation systems include fixation connectors that preferably are equipped with bone anchors (e.g., screws, hooks, pins or like structures) for securing the fixation connectors to bones desired to be stabilized. The fixation systems also include linking elements (e.g., rods, plates or other members) for linking the fixation connectors together to form a stabilizing construct capable of maintaining a desired spacial relationship between bones desired to be stabilized.

  • Publication number: 20090099606
Abstract: The present invention relates to spinal support devices and, more specifically, to a flexible member having variable flexibility attributable to a specified configuration for use with a dynamic stabilization system or implant to provide dynamic stability to a person's spine. The flexible member generally includes a body having a lengthwise axis, an outer surface, and opposing first and second ends with an intermediate portion extending therebetween. The outer surface has one or more grooves providing the flexible member with a variable flexibility. The one or more grooves may be situated generally perpendicular to the lengthwise axis of the body and extending around less than the outer surface of the body, and/or situated generally perpendicular to the lengthwise axis of the body and extending around the outer surface of the body substantially directly in-between the ends.

  • Publication number: 20080114400
Abstract: An orthopedic fixation device and method for correction and fixation of the vertebrae to facilitate an anatomically correct fusion is provided. The orthopedic fixation device includes an elongated plate including at least one fastener opening, at least two cup shaped washers mounted to the plate, and an anchor mounted to each washer, wherein each cup shaped washer slides on a track that extends along each fastener opening and wherein each cup shaped washer includes a top flange that is captured within the track that allows it to slide.

  • Publication number: 20080051780
Abstract: A system and method for fixing the relative position of vertebrae in a human spinal column utilizes a unique connector, vertebral anchors and a longitudinal pre-shaped rod. The connector assemblies each have a pass-through aperture for the rod. Each of the apertures is shaped such that at least 3 surfaces of contact are created between a variety of rod sizes and each of the connectors, thereby allowing secure and stable holding of the rod with respect to the other system components and the vertebrae.

  • Patent number: 5814098
Abstract: The present invention is a single apparatus that can be adjusted through a range of diameters to measure an anatomical tissue annulus. The apparatus includes an elongated support member having a proximal end and a distal end. An operator actuated movable member is joined to the proximal end of the elongated support member while an adjustable member is joined to the distal end of the elongated support member. The adjustable member has a reference axis and an outer curved surface selectively positionable in response to the operator actuated member. In particular, the outer curved surface can be selectively positioned between an inner position proximate the reference axis and an outer position spaced apart from the reference axis.
