    Abstract: The present invention provides flexible, porous aluminum oxide and methods for its synthesis. The films exhibit surprising mechanical properties when compared to standard porous aluminum oxide. The flexible, porous aluminum oxide is of use as a separator in lithium-ion batteries. The flexibility of the films improves the capabilities and efficiencies of lithium-ion batteries.
