    Abstract: A network lookup engine in a network switch is configured to generate multiple lookup queries for each incoming packet in parallel to a remote search engine. The number and type of the lookup queries depend on the protocols supported by the network switch. The responses from the search engine arriving at the lookup engine are not in the same order as the order of the packets. The network lookup engine is configured to collect the responses for the parallel lookup queries in two modes: 1) in-order mode in which the first packet having its lookup queries sent to the search engine has its responses collected first regardless of the order of the responses received from the search engine; 2) out-of-order mode in which the first packet having complete responses to its lookup queries from the search engine has its responses collected first regardless of the order of incoming packets.

    Abstract: A large thrust ball bearing, retainer, and raceways, using a surface treatment such as hard anodize, lowers the friction and wear. The retainer, molded in synthetic resin with self-lubricated material reinforced with carbon fiber such as MoS2, and PTPE, eliminates the thermal viscosity. Multi-segment retainers, each with an inner race-guided configuration, an alternative ball pocket cross-section design with a slotted configuration, reduce the thermal effects, improve the producibility of the retainer, and reduce the manufacturing cost. The pocket design with an oval cross-section instead of a circular cross-section also reduces the localized thermal-induced effect which would otherwise result in a pinching condition between the ball and the retainer. The alternative slotted retainer pocket design increases the compliance between ball/pocket interfaces, which helps to reduce the dynamic effects.

    Abstract: The invention describes a network lookup engine for generating parallel network lookup requests for input packets, where each packet header is parsed and represented by a programmable parser in a format, namely a token, which is understandable by the engine. Each token can require multiple lookups in parallel in order to speed up the packet processing time. The sizes of lookup keys varies depending on the content of the input token and the protocols programmed for the engine. The engine generates a super key per token, representing all parallel lookup keys wherein the content of each key can be extracted from the super key through an associated profile identification. The network lookup engine is protocol-independent which means the conditions and rules for generating super keys are full programmable so that the engine can be reprogrammed to perform a wide variety of network features and protocols in a software-defined networking (SDN) system.
