Briefly described in architecture, some embodiments of such a system provide a control unit for controlling user access to a computer in accordance with a user profile. An administrator of the computer is enabled to remotely access and modify the user profile. The user profile is stored at least in a remote database that is accessible via a server. Other systems and methods are also provided.

Briefly described in architecture, some embodiments of a system provide an Internet user interface to access Internet sites from the computer. An access control unit regulates user-access to Internet sites from the computer according to a user profile of a current user of the computer. The user profile for the current user of the computer indicates which content categories the current user is authorized to access. The content categories are remotely stored in a database. Briefly described in architecture, some embodiments of such a system provide computer access settings for a user. One version of a user's computer access settings is stored in a remote database, and another version is stored in the user's computer. Further, a control unit is provided to to communicate with a server and to automatically update the versions of the computer access settings in the computer and the server to coincide with each other responsive to at least one computer event.
