  • Patent number: 9661121
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) device pointed at an appliance to be controlled, or at an object that is to be accessed or about which information needs to retrieved, determines its position and orientation within an environment with respect to a fixed frame of reference. The appliance to be controlled is identified based on a determined position and orientation of the UE device and a known position of the appliance. The UE device controls the identified appliance by establishing a wireless communication link between the identified appliance and UE device based on a wireless technology that is compliant with both the appliance and the UE device. The UE device may control another appliance via a central control computer server to which the other appliance is interfaced, when the other appliance is not configured for wireless communication.

  • Patent number: 9619017
Abstract: A method includes analyzing data associated with an image captured by a camera to determine a visual orientation and/or eye gaze movement of a user of a computer. Upon detecting that the visual orientation indicates that the user is visually oriented toward a display device associated with the computer, a wireless connection from the computer to a computer input device and from the computer input device to the computer is established or maintained. Upon detecting that the visual orientation indicates that the user is not visually oriented toward the display device associated with the computer, the wireless connection is terminated. Another method accomplishes similar objectives using proximity sensors.

  • Patent number: 9144017
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus for wireless data communication. In one aspect, a device communicates with a base station. The device comprises a circuit configured to generate energy based on an environmental input. The device further comprises a storage device configured to store the energy. The device further comprises a clock circuit configured to generate a clock signal. The clock circuit is configured to power on during an active state of the device and power off during a sleep state of the device. The device further comprises a trigger circuit configured to generate a trigger signal that transitions the device into the active state when a level of the energy stored reaches a threshold value. The device further comprises a transmitter configured to transmit a message to the base station in response to generation of the trigger signal.

  • Publication number: 20140170979
Abstract: A method of reducing power consumption in a wireless headset paired to a mobile device is disclosed. The mobile device receives a first audio signal via a microphone on the mobile device, and determines an audio quality of the first audio signal. In response thereto, the mobile device may selectively deactivate a microphone on the headset to reduce its power consumption. For some embodiments, the audio quality may be determined, in part, upon a distance between the mobile device and the headset. For other embodiments, the audio quality may be determined, in part, upon a comparison between audio signals received by the mobile device microphone and the headset microphone.

  • Patent number: 8687840
Abstract: Methods and devices to conserve power on a mobile device determine an active region on a display and dimming a portion of the display backlight corresponding to the non-active regions. The method includes detecting an active region and a non-active region on a display. The detection may be based on a user interaction with the display or processing an image of the user to determine where on the display the user is looking. The method may control a brightness of a backlight of the display depending on the active and non-active region.
