    Abstract: The present disclosure provides a superabsorbent dressing comprising non-woven protonated chitosan fabric/sheet that shows superior fluid absorption and retention capacity, enhanced tensile strength and coherency. The superabsorbent dressings of the present disclosure comprise chitosan fibers composed of chitosan amide and an acid salt of chitosan. The present disclosure also provides a continuous method and a device for manufacturing the chitosan dressings of the disclosure.

    Abstract: The present disclosure provides a composite dressing comprising a combination of porous matrix and fabric substrate wherein at least one of said porous matrix and fabric substrate is composed biomaterial(s) and wherein the fabric substrate is at least partially embedded in the porous matrix. Further, the disclosure provides a method for preparation of said composite dressing, wherein said method enables production of the composite dressing having cohesive bonding between porous matrix and fabric support without use of any adhesive, stitching or chemical crosslinking agent between the two layers. The composite dressing exhibits high peel strength in both dry and wet conditions and has applications such as hemostatic dressings for deep cavity wounds, puncture wounds, post-partum hemorrhage and internal hemostatic agents.

The method includes melt-spinning at least one biocompatible polymer to form fibers; collecting the fibers on a substrate such that the fibers are aligned on the substrate; and applying a binding agent to the aligned fibers to bond the fibers into the aligned arrangement to obtain the patterned substrate in form of an aligned fiber mat. Use of the patterned substrate in an implant for tissue engineering is also provided.
