Abstract: A database service may store data on behalf of clients in multiple replicas on respective computing nodes in different availability zones. The service may employ a lease based protocol to select a master replica for a replica group that does not depend on an external service, but is managed by client processes executing on the database hosts themselves. To assume the role of a primary (writable) master for a database table, a master host may acquire a lease by updating a lease record for the table that is maintained in a consistent data store. If the master host fails to renew the lease within a pre-determined lease period, it may revert to read-only mode, and a secondary master host, having determining (based on the lease record) that the primary master no longer holds the lease, may assume the role of primary master by acquiring the lease and making itself writable.

Abstract: Remote computing resource service providers allow customers to reduce overhead by using computing resources shared with other customers. Customers communicate with the computing resources over a network, such as the Internet, these networks enable the use of remote computing resources but do experience errors. To ensure access to resources by the customer, a network troubleshooting service allows the customer to determine connectivity between computing resources and provides operations to the customer that when performed establish connectivity between computing resources. Furthermore, monitoring of connectivity once a connection is established ensures that the resources maintain connectivity.

Abstract: Systems and methods for end-to-end network-based services metering validation in a network-based services system may support configuring a client usage simulator on one or more computers to simulate client usage of a network-based services system. The system and method may include implementing an external usage meter in the client usage simulator to monitor and record one or more types of usage and send the information to an auditor implemented on one or more computers. An internal meter in the network-based services system may monitor and record usage of the network-based services system by the client usage simulator. The recorded information may be sent to an auditor for comparison with the external records.

The coordinator may use the interface to notify a second client that the service implemented by the first client is accessible via a dedicated direct physical link set up on behalf of the second client. In response to a subscription request for the service, the coordinator performs one or more configuration operations to enable a request for the service from the second client to be routed using the second client's dedicated physical link.
