Abstract: The present invention provides a portable, disposable article for repelling insects. The article includes a fibrous substrate which can be impregnated with the insect repellent. In one embodiment, the fibrous substrate is disposed intermediate a porous cover and a barrier layer, and comprises fibers having external capillary channels. The porous cover can comprise an apertured plastic film having tapered apertures. The insect repellent can be contained in a breakable packet, such that when the breakable packet is broken, the insect repellent is directed through the fibrous substrate for release through the apertured film.

Abstract: Described is (i) a method of repelling Musca domestica L.(Diptera:Muscidae) or Aedes aegyptae for a finite period of time from a three-dimensional space inhabitable by Musca domnestica L.(Diptera:Muscidae) or Aedes aegyptae consisting essentially of the step of exposing a three-dimensional space to an effective Musca domestica L.(Diptera:Muscidae) or Aedes aegyptae-repelling concentration and quantity of a geraniol-containing composition consisting essentially of 50-100% of geraniol with the remainder of the composition being a compound selected from the group consisting of citronellol and nerol and (ii) a method of attracting Musca domestica L.(Diptera:Muscidae) or Aedes aegyptae using lavender absolute, benzoin, dimethyl benzyl carbinyl acetate, jasmine absolute, racemic borneol, d-limonene and/or dihydrolinalool. The attractants taken alone or in combination find utility primarily as bait enhancers for acute toxins and/or trapping devices.

Abstract: Described is a composition which is both an insect repellent and a perfume containing:Para-isopropylcyclohexanol;3,7-dimethyl-2,6-octadien-1-al;5,9-dimethyl-4,8-decadienal;p-mentha-1,8-diene;o-methyl-betaphenylethyl alcohol; and4-cyclooctenyl methyl carbonate.Also described is a method of using such formulation in order to repel insects.

Abstract: Described is a method for repelling at least one of the insect species:(i) Haematobia irritans (Linnaeus) (commonly known as the horn fly); and(ii) Solenopsis invicta Buren (commonly known as the "red imported fire ant")from a surface or volume inhabited by at least one of said insect species consisting of the step of applying to said surface or said volume a "red imported fire ant" and/or horn fly-repelling quantity and concentration of a geraniol-containing mixture comprising:(i) from 0 up to about 20% by weight of nerol;(ii) from about 20 up to about 40% by weight of citronellol; and(iii) from about 50 up to about 70% by weight of geraniolwhich geraniol-containing mixture is defined according to specific GLC profiles set forth in the figures and refractive index and density set forth in the specification.

Abstract: Described are methods for attracting insects to a three-dimensional space inhabited by such insects comprising the step of exposing the three-dimensional space to an insect-attracting concentration and quantity of lavender absolute or jasmine absolute. More specifically, described is a method of attracting Aedes aegypti using lavender absolute; and a method of attracting Musca domestica L. (Diptera:Muscidae) using jasmine absolute. Also described are such methods of attracting insects to insect traps which contain the attractants jasmine absolute and/or lavender absolute as baits.

The attractants taken alone or in combination find utility primarily as bait enhancers for acute toxins and/or trapping devices. The above-stated attractants are described to be useful as such are contained in a polymer which can be a biodegradable polymer, such as compositions containing a major proportion of poly (epsilon caprolactone) homopolymers.
