  • Patent number: 9971828
Abstract: Techniques for managing big data include tagging of documents and subsequent retrieval using per-subject dictionaries having entries with subject-determining-power scores. The subject-determining-power scores provide an indication of the descriptive power of the term with respect to the subject of the dictionary containing the term. The same term may have entries in multiple dictionaries with different subject-determining-power scores in each of the dictionaries. A retrieval request for one or more documents containing search terms descriptive of the one or more documents can be processed identifying a set of candidate documents tagged with subjects and optional terms, and then applying subject-determining-power scores from the multiple dictionaries for the search term to determine a subject for the search term. The method then selects the one or more documents from the candidate documents according to the subject.

  • Patent number: 9971782
Abstract: Techniques for managing big data include tagging of documents and subsequent retrieval using per-subject dictionaries having entries with some entries specially designated as entities. An entity indicates that the term in the entry has special meaning, e.g., brands (trademarks/service marks), trade names, geographic identifiers or other classes of terms. A dictionary may include a non-entity entry for a term and one or more entity entries, for different entity types. The entries may also include subject-determining-power scores. The subject-determining-power scores provide an indication of the descriptive power of the term with respect to the subject of the dictionary containing the term. The same term may have entries in multiple dictionaries with different subject-determining-power scores in each of the dictionaries. The entity distinctions for a term can then be used in tagging documents and processing retrieval requests.

  • Publication number: 20180006713
Abstract: A satellite communication system provides for handovers between satellites and multiple gateways. Terminals communicate with a first gateway via a first satellite as beams of the first satellite traverse the region. A second gateway is in communication with the first satellite and hands over to a second satellite. The first gateway is at a first location. The second gateway is at a second location separated from the first location in the orbital direction. Terminals handover to the second satellite as beams of the second satellite begin to traverse the region, and the terminals start connecting to and communicating with the second gateway via the second satellite. After all of the terminals of the plurality of terminals handover to the second satellite, the first gateway hands over to the second satellite and then the terminals in the region communicate with the first gateway via the second satellite.

  • Publication number: 20170371890
Abstract: Systems for enforcing multiple object deletion policies over shared content objects that are accessible in a cloud-based service platform. A method embodiment commences upon receiving two or more sets of file deletion parameters that describe respective two or more object deletion policies covering a portion of the shared content objects. Records that form associations between the file deletion parameters and at least some of the shared content objects are made available to event listeners in the system. Upon detecting events associated with access to the shared content by the users, the event listeners analyze the events to identify objects of the shared content that are associated with the multiple object deletion policies. If an object is covered by conflicting deletion policy actions, then actions of the deletion policy having a higher priority are applied. Some actions prevent or delay modification of the objects. Lower priority data retention deletions are suppressed.

  • Patent number: 9664751
Abstract: A two-dimensional SQIF array and methods for manufacture can include at least two bi-SQUIDs that share an inductance. The bi-SQUIDs can be combined to establish a diamond-shaped cell. A plurality of the diamond shaped cells can be packed tightly together so that each cell shares at least three cell junctions with adjacent cells to establish the SQIF array. Because of the close proximity of the cells, the effect that the mutual inductances each cell has on adjacent cells can be accounted for, as well as the SQIF array boundary conditions along the array edges. To do this, a matrix of differential equations can be solved to provide for the recommended inductance of each bi-SQUID in the SQIF array. Each bi-SQUID can be manufactured with the recommended inductance to result in a SQIF having an increased strength of anti-peak response, but without sacrificing the linearity of the response.

  • Publication number: 20170146618
Abstract: An antenna includes a plurality of superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) arrays on a chip, and a printed circuit board (PCB) formed with a cutout for receiving the chip. The PCB is formed with a set of coplanar transmission lines, and the chip is inserted into the cutout so that each said transmission line connects to a respective SQUID array. A cryogenic system can cool the chip to a temperature that causes a transition to superconductivity for the SQUID arrays. A thermal radome can be placed around the chip, the PCB and the cryogenic system to maintain the temperature. A DC bias can be applied to the SQUID arrays to facilitate RF detection. The SQUID array, chip and CPW transmission lines can cooperate to allow for both detection of said RF energy and conversion of said RF energy to a signal without requiring the use of a conductive antenna dish.

  • Patent number: 9430559
Abstract: Techniques for managing big data include retrieval using per-subject dictionaries having multiple levels of sub-classification hierarchy within the subject. Entries may include subject-determining-power (SDP) scores that provide an indication of the descriptive power of the entry term with respect to the subject of the dictionary containing the term. The same term may have entries in multiple dictionaries with different SDP scores in each of the dictionaries. A retrieval request for one or more documents containing search terms descriptive of the one or more documents can be processed by identifying a set of candidate documents tagged with subjects, i.e., identifiers of per-subject dictionaries having entries corresponding to a search term, then using affinity values to adjust the aggregate score for the terms in the dictionaries. Documents are then selected for best match to the subject based on the adjusted scores.
