  • Patent number: 4777222
Abstract: A method for producing a differentially dyeable polyamide is disclosed. Polyamides produced according to the process of this invention will have distinct areas thereon that show varying degrees of receptivity to acid dyes and can thereby be differentially dyed using a single dyebath.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 10, 1987
Date of Patent: October 11, 1988
    Assignee: Armstrong World Industries, Inc.
Inventors: Xuan T. Phan, Paul J. Shannon, Anne L. Schwartz

    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 12, 1986
Date of Patent: February 2, 1988
    Assignee: Armstrong World Industries, Inc.
Inventors: Xuan T. Phan, Paul J. Shannon, Anne L. Schwartz
  • Patent number: 4640885
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method of photolytically developing a colored image on a cellulosic material. In this method, the material is contacted with a nitrogen containing polymer in solution and a mono-sulfonyl azide compound in solution. The sample is thereafter exposed to a UV-containing light source for an amount of time sufficient to develop a color thereon.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 28, 1985
Date of Patent: February 3, 1987
    Assignee: Armstrong World Industries, Inc.
Inventors: Ronald S. Lenox, Anne L. Schwartz, Charles E. Hoyle
  • Patent number: 4603178
Abstract: A method for producing a differentially dyeable polyamide is disclosed. The method comprises selectively reacting a polyamide's free amines with an N-halogenating agent. Polyamides produced according to the process of this invention will have distinct areas thereon that show varying degrees of receptivity to acid dyes and can thereby be differentially dyed using a single dyebath.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 1, 1984
Date of Patent: July 29, 1986
    Assignee: Armstrong World Industries, Inc.

  • Patent number: 4452604
Abstract: The present invention concerns our discovery that decorative sheets and coverings comprising polyvinyl chloride and having substantially non-migratable through-color images may be prepared using cationic dyestuffs. These coverings may be prepared by providing a variety of polyvinyl chloride-containing substrates with image compositions comprising cationic dyestuffs and a suitable binder, and then treating these materials such that the cationic dyestuffs migrate into the substrate. Through-color images are obtained which are substantially non-migrating, even under severe conditions.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: June 5, 1984
    Assignee: Armstrong World Industries, Inc.
Inventors: Ronald S. Lenox, Anne L. Schwartz, Moses Sparks, Jr.
  • Patent number: 4343923
Abstract: A method for decreasing a polyamide textile material's affinity for acid dyes, which comprises pretreating the textile material with an acylimidazole compound.
