  • Patent number: 9729404
Abstract: The invention provides a quality of service monitoring device (12) for use with a user equipment comprising a base platform (14); and an external communication module (24) adapted to receive from an external source one or more listener modules and/or detector modules for incorporation into the base platform (14). The base platform (14) is coupled to the external communication module (24) to receive one or more listener modules (20) and detector modules (22) and is adapted to install received modules to extend the functionality of the base platform (14) so as to perform the functionality of the installed modules. A corresponding method is provided. There is also provided a quality of service monitoring apparatus, for use on the network side, as well as a corresponding method.

  • Patent number: 9130960
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of selecting a data source node from a plurality of data source nodes, the selected data source node being used to send data to a data requesting node over a packet data network. The method includes, at an intermediate node of the network, intercepting at least one message sent to or from the data requesting node, the message(s) relating to data source node suitability, determining a cost of communication between the data requesting node and each of the data source nodes to which the message(s) relate, and influencing data source node suitability information sent to the data requesting node to take account of the cost to enable the data requesting node to use the information to select a data source node.

  • Publication number: 20110047272
Abstract: A system, method, and network node (14) for distributing a network management task from a source to a plurality of network nodes in a traffic network (10). When a task is received in a network node (14), the node determines whether the task is to be forwarded to other network nodes. If so, the receiving network node utilizes application-level knowledge of the functionality of each neighboring node to select one or more neighboring nodes that need to receive the task. The receiving network node then utilizes a functional management overlay layer (12) known as the Data Discovery and Distribution, D3, layer to communicate the task to the selected neighboring nodes. The network node receives responses from the neighboring nodes, aggregates the responses with local information, and sends an aggregated response to the source.

  • Publication number: 20100142404
Abstract: A system, method, and network node for discovering network nodes and management information distributed in different strongly connected components, SCCs, in a traffic network. When a network node in a first SCC receives a request at an application layer for network management information, the node determines whether it can reach other nodes at the application layer. If not, the node utilizes a functional overlay layer known as the Data Discovery and Distribution, D3, layer to identify and select a set of neighboring nodes to receive the request. The selection procedure provides good probabilistic guarantees that the selected neighbors will include at least one neighbor in a different SCC. The node sends the request to the selected neighboring nodes at the D3 layer.
