Patent number: 7052865Abstract: A method for identifying a gene having a role in the presentation of diabetic nephropathy comprises culturing mesangial cells in the presence of a concentration of glucose sufficient to induce differential expression, especially up-regulation, of a gene susceptible to such differential expression and identifying the gene so induced. The cells are also optionally subjected to mechanical strain and/or TGF-?1 can be added to the culture medium. The differentially expressed genes can be identified by suppression subtractive hybridisation. The method has resulted in the Identification of novel genes which play a role in the presentation of diabetic nephropathy. The genes can be used as diagnostic markers for diabetic nephropathy and as the basis of drug development programmes.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2000Date of Patent: May 30, 2006Assignees: University College Dublin, National University of Ireland, Dublin, Hibergen LimitedInventors: Hugh Redmond Brady, Catherine Mary Godson, Finian Mary Martin, Ruth Anne McMahon, Madeline Anne Murphy

Patent number: 7037887Abstract: Clear, or translucent fabric softener compositions comprise fabric softener compound, principal solvent system, and high electrolyte levels. The high electrolyte level allows for a broader range of principal solvents to be used and/or reduces the incidence of increased viscosity when low levels of principal solvent are used. Phase stabilizers which are primarily ethoxylated hydrophobic materials can be used to reduce the amount of principal solvent that is needed and/or to stabilize the compositions in the presence of the highest levels of electrolyte. Specific phase stabilizers provide additional benefits including improved softening. Specific electrolytes provide improved results. Addition of primary solvents and/or phase stabilizers to the softener compounds can improve the viscosity/handling of the compounds and the ability to create the finished compositions.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 2004Date of Patent: May 2, 2006Assignee: The Procter & Gamble CompanyInventors: Gayle Marie Frankenbach, Ellen Schmidt Baker, Rebecca Gayle Baker, Marc Johan Declercq, Hugo Jean Marie Demeyere, Ryan Matthew Heiden, Charles Albert Hensley, Brent Alan Kolb, Ruth Anne Murphy, Ronald Edward Pegoli, Toan Trinh, Errol Hoffman Wahl, Michael Rene Weaver, Dean Larry DuVal, John Henry Shaw, Jr., Masae Nogami, Ronghui Wu

Patent number: 7018974Abstract: Clear/translucent formulations comprise polyquaternary ammonium actives with lower, or no, solvent levels except the solvent which is normally present in the polyquaternary raw material stocks by choosing highly efficient principal solvents within a specific Clog P range, employing higher levels of polyquaternary ammonium actives, and/or augmenting the bilayer with surfactants and/or polar oils. Compositions with lowered solvent levels have at or below about 5% by volume of secondary dispersed phases, preferably below about 3% by volume of secondary dispersed phases, and more preferably below about 1% by volume of secondary dispersed phases. The most preferred compositions are essentially free of secondary dispersed phases. High-speed centrifugation easily and quickly reveals the % volume of secondary phase(s).Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 2004Date of Patent: March 28, 2006Assignee: The Procter & Gamble CompanyInventors: Gayle Marie Frankenbach, Mark Robert Sivik, Ruth Anne Murphy, Ellen Schmidt Baker, Marc Johan Declercq, Hugo Jean Marie Demeyere, Toan Trinh, Errol Hoffman Wahl
