  • Patent number: 9181441
Abstract: This invention provides a polymer film coating for use preferably with cold glue labels, particularly on the adhesive-receiving side of a label film. The coating includes a filler component and a binder component, at least one of which is hydrophobic. The coating imparts water resistance and solvent resistance to an adhered label, thereby improving resistance to label removal due to moisture or water contact. A coated label and method of applying the coating to a label film are also included.

Date of Patent: November 10, 2015
    Assignee: JINDAL FILMS AMERICAS LLC
Inventors: Anne P. Campeau, Dennis E. Mcgee, Kevin A. Kirk
  • Publication number: 20130209758
Abstract: A coated thermoplastic film is disclosed. The film includes a polymeric substrate and a first coating layer. The polymeric substrate includes a first skin layer. The first coating layer on the first side of the first skin layer includes at least a first filler component. The filler component has a particular particle size relative to the open-cell, closed-cell or uncavitated structure of the first skin layer. Films and labels having improved balance of properties are described.

  • Publication number: 20130089685
Abstract: Provided is a squeezable oriented polypropylene adhesive film that can be formed into a label comprising at least one core layer sandwiched between at least two skin layers, the layers comprising: a core layer comprising a polypropylene and within the range of from 20 wt % to 50 wt %, by weight of the materials in the core layer, of a propylene-?-olefin elastomer having within the range of from 5 wt % to 25 wt % ?-olefin derived units, by weight of the elastomer; a printable skin layer comprising within the range of from 60 wt % to 100 wt %, by weight of the materials in the printable skin layer, or an ?-olefin copolymer comprising at least 30 wt % ethylene; and an adhesive-accepting skin layer comprising within the range of from 60 wt % to 100 wt %, by weight of the materials in the adhesive-accepting skin layer, of a polypropylene.

  • Publication number: 20130059119
Abstract: Multilayer polymer films are described. The films include an oriented polymeric substrate wherein a print-side skin layer of the substrate has a surface roughness, Ra, ?12.0 ?m. The films also include a metal layer in surface contact with the print side of the polymeric substrate, a primer composition in surface contact with the metal layer, and a printable topcoat layer in surface contact with the primer composition. Pressure-sensitive label structures and methods of making such films are also described.
