  • Publication number: 20150330799
Abstract: An approach for determining a route is provided. A rule is retrieved, which indicates a number of recommended routes passing through a constrained area is not permitted to exceed a threshold. After a receipt of N requests from N respective users for N routes, N recommended routes passing through the constrained area are determined and presented to the N users. After determining the N recommended routes and based on a receipt of a request from an (N+1)-th user for an (N+1)-th route, the (N+1)-th route, which passes through the constrained area, is determined. Based on the retrieved rule and the (N+1)-th route passing through the constrained area, N+1 is determined to not exceed the second number. Responsive to determining N+1 does not exceed the threshold, the (N+1)-th route is designated as an (N+1)-th recommended route.

  • Publication number: 20150317584
Abstract: Methods, including service methods, articles of manufacture, systems, articles and programmable devices provide a conservation modeling engine framework. Programmable conservation modeling engines in communication with different customizable resource conservation modules, each resource conservation module customized to a distinct resource, select one of the modules customized to a resource identified for conservation, and user-defined criteria as a function of the identified resource and the selected module. Input data is selected and collected as a function of the resource identified and the selected module and used to weight the input data. Different optimized conservation plans are created as a function of the weighted input data and the selected module, each of the optimized conservation plans displayed having a different implementation cost, a different time for implementation and a different total amount of the identified resource saved.

  • Patent number: 9141637
Abstract: An approach for managing file storage between local and remote storage locations in a networked computing environment (e.g., a cloud computing environment) is provided. In a typical embodiment, files/data may be tagged with metadata that associates the files/data with an event that indicates a date/time and a geographical destination of an intended use of the files. The files may then be transferred between local and remote storage (e.g., at the destination) based upon a set of predefined rules for transferring the files/data.

  • Patent number: 9141715
Abstract: In a method for automated hyperlinking, a computer receives user input specifying a set of character sequence columns in a table to use for character sequence comparison. The computer detects whether a character sequence entered into an electronic communication in a user interface on a display matches one or more character sequences in fields of the set of character sequence columns. Responsive to the character sequence matching a single character sequence of the one or more character sequences in the fields of the set of character sequence columns, the computer retrieves, from an associated link field in the table, a hyperlink associated with the single character sequence. The computer inserts the hyperlink into the electronic communication.

  • Patent number: 9131021
Abstract: Illustrative embodiments disclose sharing an area of a computer system screen. A first computer system configures a sharing session for sharing a region of the screen with a second computer system. The first computer system assesses information on performance of the sharing session, determining from the information a minimum size of the region based on the assessment, and then selects the region to share based on the assessment and a designation by a user.

  • Patent number: 9117193
Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for detecting affinity between entities in a virtual universe (VU) using real time access to descriptions prepared from information about objective entities available in VU databases as well as descriptive information made available by the objective entities. Objective entities may be aggregations of virtual entities. Activators for affinity determinations are provided. The information on an objective entity is compared with descriptive information on a VU subject to determine affinity, and corresponding action of the VU subject. In this manner also the comparative affinities of different objective entities may determine actions of the VU subject.

  • Patent number: 9106966
Abstract: Disclosed is a novel system and method for presenting a listing of multimedia content. The method begins with accessing a multi-dimensional data space with a plurality of nodes. Each of the nodes in the multi-dimensional data space contains a set of informational descriptors about multimedia content. User input is received for least one dimension of relatedness to be used with the set of informational descriptors. A subset of the plurality of nodes is defined with the at least one dimension of relatedness using an order embedding algorithm and the user input. The subset of the plurality of nodes is presented to the user.

  • Patent number: 9094702
Abstract: Program code on mobile computing devices and a server computer receive information about mobile computing devices within a defined area. The program code selects an announcement, from a database based on the information received, having audio that is in a language determined as being utilized within the defined area, wherein the language is assigned a first highest ranking, and wherein the first highest ranking indicates that the language is spoken by a majority of persons within the defined area. The program code selects a transcription of the audio from the database, wherein the transcription is in a language determined as being utilized within the defined area, and wherein the language is assigned a second highest ranking. The program code instructs a television within the defined area to output the audio, and to output the transcription of the audio on a display screen of the television.

  • Patent number: 9086725
Abstract: The present invention enables the host (presenter) to monitor and identify the current slide of the host presentation that is being displayed on a local user machine. The host is able to receive queries such as instant messages from local user's viewing the presentation and identify a particular presentation slide with contents that formed the basis for the question. The present invention generates a transcript of the local user activities that occurred during the presentation. This transcript helps the host presenter understand the contents of the activities and the basis for queries made to the host presenter.

  • Patent number: 9086788
Abstract: An apparatus and computer program product for collaborating is disclosed. Responsive to a computer system receiving a selection from a user for a portion of a document, the computer system identifies a context for the selected portion of the document. The computer system identifies a set of collaboration channels corresponding to the context. The computer system determines whether the set of collaboration channels corresponding to the context is empty. The computer system then creates a new collaboration channel based on the context for the selected portion of the document responsive to the set of collaboration channels corresponding to the context being empty.

  • Publication number: 20150177812
Abstract: Disclosed is a novel system and method for maintaining computing functionality when a client device must be used in a low-power state. More particularly, when a client device is placed in a low-power state, sleep mode, or even shut-down, this method transfers aspects of the machine state onto a virtual machine in the cloud. This virtual machine may then function as a partial or full emulator of the user's client machine and thus can be: 1) accessed; and 2) communicated with by the machine's owner or others who use the machine. As long as the client device is shutdown, the cloud continues to temporarily function as the user's machine. Numerous embodiments are disclosed including a “hybrid decomposition feature” in which the data on the client machine is prioritized and then transfer to a server, typically a virtual emulator, component by component or piecemeal manner or manner.

  • Patent number: 9058314
Abstract: A method and system for representing data includes providing a data representation according to defined variables and a functional relationship between the defined variables and receiving an assigned weight assigned to a defined variable. The method includes receiving a modification of a selected defined variable, and providing a further data representation according to a recalculation of an unselected defined variable, based upon the functional relationship, the assigned weight and the modified variable. Assigned weights and a plurality of modifications of the weighted variable are received. A further data representation is provided according to a further recalculation of the weighted variable based upon a weight selected from the assigned weights according to a previous modification of the weighted variable.
