  • Patent number: 11635438
Abstract: Methods, systems and kits for the early diagnosis or prediction of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) including sepsis in asymptomatic patients, such as patients undergoing a surgical intervention, are provided. Some embodiments include a method and system for the detection or diagnosis of SIRS, or detection or diagnosis of a risk to suffer from or develop SIRS, in an asymptomatic patient comprising the steps of determining the level of IL-6 (or a variant thereof) in a sample from the patient; comparing the level of IL-6 (or a variant thereof) to a reference level; detecting or diagnosing SIRS or diagnosing a risk to suffer from or develop SIRS, wherein the sample is isolated at least 2 times at short intervals and the determining and comparing steps are both repeated for each sample. Also provided are methods, systems and kits for therapy monitoring and mortality prediction.

  • Patent number: 9757174
Abstract: An implant, a method for production thereof, and use thereof for growing patients are disclosed, containing a Mg—Zn—Ca-based alloy. In order to meet extremely strict requirements with regard to compatibility, chemical resistance, and mechanical strength, it is proposed that the alloy contain 0.1 to 0.6 wt % zinc (Zn), 0.2 to 0.6 wt % calcium (Ca), and a remainder of magnesium (Mg), as well as impurities that are an inevitable part of the manufacturing process, which each total no more than 0.01 wt % and altogether total at most 0.1 wt %, with the quotient of the percentages by weight of Zn and Ca being less than or equal to 1.

  • Patent number: 8962008
Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel polymeric material with enhanced hydrophilicity for medical use comprising a biocompatible polyester material selected from the group consisting of poly(hydroxyalkanoate)s, poly(lactic acid)s, poly(glycolic acid)s, poly(caprolactone)s and copolymers and blends thereof, wherein the biocompatible polyester material is crosslinked with a functionalized poly(alkylene oxide) having at least two functional groups independently selected from the group consisting of azido-formate and alkanoyl azide. The novel polymeric material with enhanced hydrophilicity is useful as a biocompatible material in a variety of medical applications, including medical implants, bioresorbable implants, tissue engineering, and controlled release.
