  • Patent number: 9426711
Abstract: A method of handling traffic within an IP Multimedia Subsystem, IMS, network. The method comprises registering an IMS user with a first Serving Call Session Control Function, S-CSCF, of the IMS network. Subsequently, at the first S-CSCF, a decision is made or instruction received to transfer said user to an alternative, second S-CSCF within the IMS network. A notification is sent from said first S-CSCF to a further IMS node, the notification including an explicit instruction to select a second S-CSCF and, upon receipt of said notification at the further IMS node, an S-CSCF reselection initiated for the user in order to select a second S-CSCF.

  • Patent number: 9398054
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a network entity of an IMS network, in which a registered user is being served by an assigned Serving-Call Session Control Function, S-CSCF. The network entity includes a memory storing data that includes an identity of at least one better-matching S-CSCF in the IMS network having capabilities better suited for serving the registered user than the assigned S-CSCF. The network entity is configured to obtain an indication of the availability of the better-matching S-CSCF, and when the better-matching S-CSCF entity is available to initiate a transfer so that the registered user is served by the better-matching S-CSCF. The network entity may be the assigned S-CSCF, or may be an I-CSCF. Embodiments of the present invention provide a method of transferring a registered user to a better-matching S-CSCF.

  • Publication number: 20150032791
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for providing, to an S-CSCF, application server behaviour instructions. The application server behaviour instructions are applied by the S-CSCF when interworking with the application server that the instructions are for.

  • Patent number: 8788678
Abstract: A method of handling IP Multimedia Public Identity registration within an IP Multimedia Subsystem network. The method comprises receiving at a Call Session Control Function a SIP REGISTER message including a completed IP Multimedia Public Identity Attribute-Value-Pair and no IP Multimedia Private Identity. The method further comprises deriving at the Call Session Control Function an IP Multimedia Private Identity using the IP Multimedia Public Identity and sending a Cx query from the Call Session Control Function to a Home Subscriber Server, the query including the IP Multimedia Public Identity and the derived IP Multimedia Private Identity. The Home Subscriber Server identifies a subsubscription using the IP Multimedia Public Identity, and determines that the derived IP Multimedia Private Identity is not associated with said subscription.

  • Patent number: 8776183
Abstract: A Personal Area Network Security Domain (PSD) is formed between devices (142, 150, 152, 154 and 156). The PSD allows the sharing of data and/or resources between the devices within the PSD. The devices within the PSD are located remotely from one another. For example, communication between device (150 and 156) will be performed via mobile or cellular telephone network (120), the Internet (140) and mobile or cellular telephone network (126). Each network (120, 126) is provided with a PSD Hub, which enables an IPsec secure connection between the devices (150 and 156) to be established.

  • Publication number: 20120117624
Abstract: A method is provided for use in an IP Multimedia Subsystem, IMS, in which a Serving 5 Call Session Control Function, S-CSCF, of the IMS cooperates with a Home Subscriber Server, HSS, of the IMS, to lock a user following a predetermined number of failed authentications of the user at the S-CSCF and/or to unlock that user thereafter, with any request received from the user at a node of the IMS where the lock is in effect and requiring an authentication challenge being caused by the node to be rejected. In one example, a locking signal is sent from the S-CSCF to the HSS, following the predetermined number of failed authentications, to indicate to the HSS that the user should be locked at the HSS. The locking signal could be carried by a Server Assignment Request, SAR, message. In another example, the user is unlocked at the S-CSCF in response to receipt of an unlock signal sent from the HSS to the S-CSCF. The unlock signal could be carried by a Registration Termination Request, RTR, message.

  • Patent number: 7746851
Abstract: A Personal Area Network Security Domain (PSD) (50) is formed between PDA (52), mobile terminal (54), PC (56) and printer (58). The PSD (50) allows the sharing of resources between the devices within the PSD. If the devices within the PSD (50) are located remotely from one another, communication between those devices will be performed via mobile or cellular telephone network (66) and the Internet (68). For each set or association of similarly located devices within the PSD (50), one of those devices will be a gateway device. The gateway device is a device that is configured to communicate with an external communications medium (mobile network (66) or the Internet (68)). Data transmissions to other devices within the PSD are channelled through the relevant gateway. In another embodiment resources are shared between the two separate PSDs (of which may or may not be remotely located with respect to one another) by means of data exchanges between the respective gateway devices of the two PSDs.

  • Publication number: 20080062958
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method, a protocol and a control unit for managing devices in a Personal Area Network (PAN) such that a user of the PAN can use one of his devices and take advantage of services residing in any of the other devices in the PAN. The devices in the PAN are defined as either PAN controller devices or PAN auxiliary devices depending on if the devices have user interfaces suitable for controlling a PAN. When the PAN is managed according to the invention, the PAN controller devices and the PAN auxiliary devices communicate with each other via short-range communication means to exchange each other's PAN related information such that PAN related information is synchronized in the network. At least the PAN controller devices store received updated PAN related information from the other PAN participants such that the user can see an updated picture of the PAN on the PAN user interfaces.

  • Patent number: 7164885
Abstract: Methods and techniques for selective service access are described. A short range, wireless device establishes lists of available devices within its transmitting proximity that are able to provide a desired service. The lists can be ranked based upon a service profile, e.g., established by the device user. The lists can also be periodically updated to accommodate device mobility.

  • Patent number: 6965948
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing selective access to a network, between an end device and a network such as the Internet through one or more access network terminating devices includes determining an access capability for each access network terminating device and comparing the access capability with a preferred access capability associated with a user preference. Best access is determined based on a comparison of the capabilities of the access network terminating devices and the preferred capabilities. Once a match is found, one of the access network terminating devices is selected based on the comparison and the end device is configured according to the access capability of the selected one of the access network terminating devices. Access capabilities include, for example, cost of access, coverage area, and QoS. While communicating with the network the end device continues to detect if new access network terminating devices are available.
