Patent number: 8382448Abstract: A compressed air supply system for a utility vehicle includes a compressor that can be driven by a drive by a pneumatic clutch, and a valve having a magnetic coil for selectively supplying compressed air to a coupling inlet of the clutch. When the valve is opened or maintained open, a pick-up current flows through the magnetic coil during a first phase, and a holding current weaker than the pick-up current flows through the magnetic coil during a second phase, a driver signal generating the holding current being pulse-width-modulated in the second phase.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2008Date of Patent: February 26, 2013Assignee: KNORR-BREMSE Systeme fuer Nutzfahrzeuge GmbHInventors: Ansgar Fries, Eduard Hilberer

Patent number: 7802425Abstract: A method is provided for controlling and/or regulating the air pressure in a compressed air supply device for a utility vehicle. At least one pressure value in the compressed air supply device and/or in vehicle components connected to the compressed air supply device is recorded. A humidity value representing the humidity content in an air filter unit associated with the compressed air supply device is determined. A clutch connecting a drive to a compressor is opened. A discharge valve of the compressed air supply device is opened when the pressure value is above a predetermined minimum value and the humidity value exceeds a predetermined threshold value. The clutch is opened and the discharge valve remains closed when it is indicated that the clutch can be engaged, the pressure value reaches a predetermined cutting-off pressure, and the humidity value is below the predetermined threshold value.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2008Date of Patent: September 28, 2010Assignee: Knorr-Bremse Systeme fuer Nutzfahrzeuge GmbHInventors: Ansgar Fries, Eduard Hilberer

Patent number: 7114787Abstract: The brakes of the front axle of the trailer of a utility vehicle are impinged upon with a brake pressure by way of a single, common ABS valve. Said ABS valve is electrically actuated by an EBS module associated with the rear wheel brakes depending on a differential slip between the front axle and the rear axle.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 2002Date of Patent: October 3, 2006Assignee: Knorr-Bremse Systeme fuer Nutzfahrzeuge GmbHInventors: Martin Mederer, Ansgar Fries, Gergely Szabo, Matthew Fry

Patent number: 6126244Abstract: In the case of a pressure control device for electropneumatic brake systems of vehicles, particularly utility vehicles, an electromagnetically operable intake valve is provided between a compressed air supply and a consuming device of the brake system. The pressure of the consuming device in the form of a brake cylinder is measured by a pressure sensor and transmitted for the controlled actuating of the intake valve to an electronic control unit. The intake valve is constructed as a valve piston which acts with respect to a valve seat and which, on its approach flow end situated upstream of the valve seat, acts such by means of an intake cross-section which can be changed as a function of the piston stroke, with respect to the housing receiving the valve piston. Thus, according to the values determined by the pressure sensor, a controlled feeding of compressed air is permitted corresponding to the selected contouring.Type: GrantFiled: November 26, 1997Date of Patent: October 3, 2000Assignee: Knorr-Bremse System fur Nutzfahzeuge GmbHInventor: Ansgar Fries

Patent number: 6120302Abstract: A reversing valve for a two-circuit brake system of a motor vehicle is a sliding valve and consists of a housing that has a cylindrical chamber in which a piston is arranged to be movable and is pressed to a limit position by means of a spring. The outer sleeve surface of the piston has at least one recess which, together with the inner wall of the chamber, forms an annular space, which is sealed at both sides with respect to the chamber by means of seals. At least two inlets, and one outlet open into the chamber in such a way that in accordance with the position of the piston, the outlet is in a flow connection with a control inlet.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1997Date of Patent: September 19, 2000Assignee: Knorr-Bremse Systeme fur NutzfahrzeugeInventors: Ansgar Fries, Otto Vollmer

Patent number: 5718486Abstract: In the case of an electropneumatic brake system for motor vehicles, a pedal-operated braking power generator is provided which acts electrically upon an electronic control unit and feeds pneumatically into a pressure modulator which includes a proportional valve device and a reversing valve device. The pressure modulator is also controlled by desired electric value signals of the electronic control unit and is used for activating a valve device which modulates pressure mediums for the brake operation of the brake system. When the electric control fails, the pressure modulator operates redundantly.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 1996Date of Patent: February 17, 1998Assignee: Knorr-Bremse Systeme fur Nutzfahrzeuge GmbHInventors: Otto Vollmer, Ansgar Fries
