  • Publication number: 20070145688
Abstract: An assembly including a tubular connector and at least one framing member having a hollow open end and a longitudinally-extending recessed channel. The recessed channel is formed by at least a pair of opposed inwardly-directed walls having inner peripheral surfaces that taper toward one another in a substantially V-shaped configuration. The connector is slidably received within the hollow end of the framing member and has a longitudinally-extending inset track for cooperatively receiving and engaging the tapered inner peripheral surfaces of the channel walls of the framing member. The inset track has outer peripheral surfaces formed by outwardly tapered walls, whereby when the inset track and recessed channel are urged together by a fastener, a slip-resistant joint is formed therebetween. Sports goal assemblies and methods of assembly are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6308468
Abstract: An earth anchor for a pole that includes a base, a spike, and attaching apparatus. The base has a lowermost face for contacting the earth, an uppermost face opposite to the lowermost face, and a longitudinal axis. The spike is for insertion into the earth, and depends from the lowermost face of the base. The attaching apparatus is for engaging a pole, and is disposed on the uppermost face of the base. The base is disk-shaped with a circular periphery for providing a blunt round edge that eliminates corners when tipped on which a player could fall and be injured, and is wide for leaving enough room for the pole to still be pushed into the earth using foot pressure. The attaching apparatus includes a stop boss disposed on the uppermost face of the base, along the longitudinal axis of the base, which centers the attaching apparatus for allowing the pole to have identical stability in all directions.

  • Patent number: 6287220
Abstract: A device for rebounding a soccer ball kicked thereupon and for hugging the ground to prevent the soccer ball from rolling thereunder. The device includes a pair of uprights that extend vertically upwardly from the ground, a net that extends across the pair of upright, and a pair of guy ropes that extend from the pair of uprights and engage the ground. The net has a lower lateral edge that hugs the ground to prevent the soccer ball from rolling thereunder and a pair of longitudinal ends that replaceably engage, respectively, the pair of uprights. Each upright has a throughbore. Each longitudinal end of the net is formed into a sleeve that replaceably and slidingly receives an associated upright.

  • Patent number: 6261196
Abstract: A sports goal for minimizing injury to a player striking thereupon that includes a frame and a net that extends across the frame. The frame is tubular and includes four posts that extend vertically upwardly from a surface, at four corners of an imaginary rectangle, a front cross member that extends horizontally across the uppermost ends of a forwardmost pair of posts of the four posts of the frame. The forwardmost pair of posts of the four posts of the frame are releasably attached to the front cross member of the frame, which allows the forwardmost pair of posts of the four posts of the frame to break away from the front cross member of the frame when struck by the player for preventing injury thereto, while the remainder of the frame remains erect. Each end of the front cross member of the frame has a pin that depends therefrom that is releasably received in a blind bore that extends axially in the uppermost ends of the forwardmost pair of posts of the four posts of the frame.

  • Patent number: 5961403
Abstract: A training device for soccer for placement on a field and for allowing a soccer ball to be rebounded thereoff, kicked therethrough, and played therearound by a soccer player. The device includes a pair of identical supports for placement on a field and a plurality of planks that extend between the pair of supports. The pair of identical supports are inverted U-shaped. The plurality of planks include a plurality of top planks that extend longitudinally from one support to the other support, at their tops. The plurality of top planks are affixed to each support by top carriage bolts that depend through each top plank, through a respective support, and through top washers and threadably engage top nuts, with the plurality of top planks completely closing the training device for soccer, at its top. The plurality of planks further include a plurality of side planks that extend longitudinally from one support to the other support, at their sides.

  • Patent number: 5938546
Abstract: An apparatus for rebounding balls that includes a frame and a net structure within the frame, and has an upright position, a rear down position, and a front down position so as to allow the apparatus to be used in a variety of positions. The frame is unitary and tubular and comprises a front section that is planar and vertically rearwardly inclined, and a rear section that has an upper portion diverging downwardly rearwardly from the front section of the frame and forms an acute angle therebetween and a lower portion diverging downwardly rearwardly from the upper portion of the rear section of the frame. The net structure comprises a front net section that is planar, positioned within, and sized to conform to, the front section of the frame, and a rear net section positioned within, and sized to conform to, the rear section of the frame, and which is independent of the front net section of the net structure, with the net structure being secured in taut condition within the frame by rubber straps.

  • Patent number: 5048827
Abstract: An exercise device, of the rowing machine type, that is usable by individuals confined to a wheel chair and which does not require the individual to leave the wheel chair at any time before, during or after the exercise period. A U-shaped base member borders the area occupied by the wheel chair during the exercise; inwardly directed, thin flange members are formed on the base member and underlie the wheels of the wheel chair during the exercise period to prevent the base member from moving. The resistance offered by the rowing machine-type handles is variable by adjusting the angle relative to the horizontal of plunger members connected between the base member and the handles.

  • Patent number: 5005829
Abstract: An exercising device usable by patients confined to a bed. The device has a cantilevered construction and thus positions the active exercise elements within easy reach of the patient. A pair of handles that are pivotally mounted for opposite direction pivotal movement may be manipulated by the patient's hands or feet so that the patient may exercise all four limbs. The amount of resistance that is presented by the device may be varied by changing the angular orientation of resistance members that are associated with each handle, and the device is lockable to the patient's bed so that it is held against movement during the exercise period.
