  • Patent number: 4660312
Abstract: A gun barrel having a rifled-bore section at the breech end thereof and a smooth-bore section at the muzzle end thereof, the sections having a gas tight connection therebetween, the rifled-bore section comprising a first generally tubular body having a longitudinal bore and at least one spiral groove formed in the wall of the bore to a depth of a predetermined dimension, the rifled-bore section having a length corresponding substantially to the peak pressure point for the gun barrel, the smooth-bore section comprising a second generally tubular body having a longitudinal bore coaxial with the longitudinal bore of the rifled-bore section, and the longitudinal bore of the smooth-bore section having a diameter greater than the diameter of the bore of the rifled-bore section and less than the diameter of the spiral rifling groove.

  • Patent number: 4570529
Abstract: A flash suppressor for use on a rifled barrel of a firearm comprising a generally tubular body member having a first portion adapted to receive a projectile from the barrel and a second portion adapted to receive a projectile from the first portion, the first portion having a longitudinal smoothbore passage therethrough, through which a projectile discharged from the barrel passes, the barrel and the first and second portions being coaxial, and the smoothbore passage having a diameter less than the diameter of a circle passing through the bottom of the rifling grooves in the barrel, the second portion having an inside diameter significantly greater than the diameter of the smoothbore passage, and a plurality of radially directed vent openings formed in the second portion of the body member.

  • Patent number: 4546564
Abstract: The present invention is a further improvement on Marshall et al. U.S. Pat. No. 3,525,172. Herein it is proposed to construct the gun barrel of two sections which are threaded together. The rifled bore of the barrel is terminated at a predetermined point and the smooth bored muzzle portion is threaded into the rifled portion at the juncture point of peak pressure between the two barrel portions. The threaded areas on each of the gun barrel sections are interrupted in a manner that facilitates quick longitudinal assembly and a rotation of the barrels by 90.degree. locks the barrels together.
