  • Patent number: 9663864
Abstract: Hydrocarbon and hydrogen fuels and other products may be produced by a process employing a combination of fermentation and electrochemical stages. In the process, a biomass contained within a fermentation medium is fermented with an inoculum comprising a mixed culture of microorganisms derived the rumen contents of a rumen-containing animal. This inoculated medium is incubated under anaerobic conditions and for a sufficient time to produce volatile fatty acids. The resultant volatile fatty acids are then subjected to electrolysis under conditions effective to convert said volatile fatty acids to hydrocarbons and hydrogen simultaneously. The process can convert a wide range of biomass materials to a wide range of volatile fatty acid chain lengths and can convert these into a wide range of biobased fuels and biobased products.

  • Patent number: 8071042
Abstract: A method and apparatus for application of electrostatic charges to compounds to change the physical characteristics of the compounds. The compound is located within a container, that can be sealed or open, in proximity to an electrode so that there is capacitive coupling between the electrode and the compound. A high frequency, high voltage signal is applied to the electrode for a time sufficient to increase negative ions in the compound, thus changing its physical characteristics. The method can increase the pH and decreases oxidation-reduction potential. A grounded platform is provided for use with a non-conductive container, and the entire apparatus can be provided in a housing enclosure to permit safe application of electrical potential to the compound being treated.

  • Patent number: 5186171
Abstract: An electrotherapy device and process for treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. The device comprises an antenna formed of a series of spaced conductive strips, a high voltage, high frequency, low power source connected to the antenna, and dielectric shielding for preventing arcing from the device during treatment of a disorder. In the treatment process, a high voltage, high frequency, pulsed source is provided to produce a broad band output corona discharge from the antenna having an electrostatic field extending in frequency from 0 Hz to over 1 GHz and constantly changing randomly in amplitude and frequency. The excited antenna is applied to a body with the corona discharge enveloping a region experiencing a musculoskeletal disorder.
