  • Patent number: 6236863
Abstract: An output power control system prevents saturation by limiting total output power and maintaining closed loop responsiveness for a radio telephone having closed loop and open loop gain control systems. The output power control system determines when total output power exceeds an output power trigger level and automatically enters a saturation prevention mode whereby total output power is reduced through modification of a closed loop power control register. In one embodiment, an output detector and an output comparator continuously monitor output power, and in another embodiment, an analog-to-digital converter samples output power levels.

  • Patent number: 6091948
Abstract: A call forwarding automation feature in a wireless telephone provides automated activation and deactivation of conventional carrier system call forwarding. The wireless telephone provides for storing multiple call forwarding telephone numbers, selecting a call forwarding telephone number based upon location information, automatically activating call forwarding to the selected telephone number during a wireless telephone power down sequence, and automatically deactivating the call forwarding during a wireless telephone power up sequence. Programming is also provided for configuring and enabling the call forwarding feature. In another embodiment, the wireless telephone automatically prompts the user for activation of call forwarding each time the user powers down the wireless telephone. The process also provides the user an ability to select from a list of stored call forwarding telephone numbers to use, as well as providing the user an ability to manually input a new telephone number.

  • Patent number: 5790527
Abstract: In a trunked radio communications system, apparatus and methods are provided for transparently updating existing frequency division multiple access (FDMA) communications facilities to accommodate time division multiple access (TDMA) communications. TDMA channels are added to existing FDMA sites on an individual basis to increase spectral efficiency and capacity while still being compatible with existing FDMA equipment and protocols. For example, the existing FDMA control channel and protocols are used by dual mode sites and dual mode radios. A dual mode radio transceiver selectively participates in trunked radio communications in either an FDMA mode or in a TDMA mode. Each dual mode radio includes a memory for storing a mode identifier identifying each channel as an FDMA or a TDMA working channel. When a channel assignment is made, the dual mode radio determines from that channel mode identifier stored in memory whether to operate in the FDMA or TDMA mode for that particular communication.

  • Patent number: 5077828
Abstract: In a trunked radio frequency communications system, an arrangement dynamically "expands" or extends the frequency allocation table stored within the "personality" defining non-volatile storage device of transceivers to include additional RF channels. A channel configuration control message specifying a logical channel field and an FCC channel number defining an RF channel frequency is periodically transmitted over the active RF digital control channel. Transceivers correctly receiving this channel configuration message extend their stored frequency allocation tables to add the additional channel entry specified by the message. The transceivers reference these additional records in response to call messages and are thus capable of operating on the new channels.
