  • Patent number: 11010601
Abstract: An intelligent assistant device is configured to communicate non-verbal cues. Image data indicating presence of a human is received from one or more cameras of the device. In response, one or more components of the device are actuated to non-verbally communicate the presence of the human. Data indicating context information of the human is received from one or more of the sensors. Using at least this data one or more contexts of the human are determined, and one or more components of the device are actuated to non-verbally communicate the one or more contexts of the human.

  • Patent number: 10672548
Abstract: An apparatus having a fast drop-off in attraction force between magnets is provided. The apparatus includes a first magnet array having a plurality of magnets with different magnetic field orientations fixedly positioned in a first housing. The apparatus also includes an adjacent magnet assembly relative to the first magnet array and provided in a second housing that includes second and third magnet arrays, each having a plurality of magnets with different magnetic field orientations. The apparatus includes an activation mechanism configured to move the adjacent magnet assembly from at least a first relative position to a second relative position. The adjacent magnet assembly in the second relative position has a second magnetic attraction force with the first magnet array that is substantially reduced as compared to a first magnetic attraction force with the first magnet array in the first relative position.

  • Patent number: 10579253
Abstract: A canvas (e.g., a digital page or sheet of paper) on which a user can input data is displayed on a display device of a computing device in response to the canvas being invoked. The canvas can be invoked in different manners, such as by the user activating a switch or button at an “eraser” end of a stylus that mimics a pen/pencil configuration. The user can input any digital data such as notes, drawings, and so forth on the canvas that he or she desires. In response to the canvas being dismissed (e.g., by the user again activating a switch or button at an “eraser” end of a stylus that mimics a pen/pencil configuration), display of the canvas ceases. The digital data input by the user is saved or otherwise processed by the computing device.

  • Publication number: 20190136256
Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods of producing plants with preferred levels of vegetative growth periods, flowering times, and resistance to stress and pathogens; and uses of such plants. The inventors have identified that the ANGUSTIFOLIA(AtAN)/CtBP gene is a major determinant of the carbon allocation between the Shikimate Pathway and the Salicylic Acid (SA) and Jasmonic Acid(JA)/Ethylene pathway. Plants with modulated growth periods, flowering times, and resistance to stress/pathogen characteristics, based on modulation of the expression or activity of the ANGUSTIFOLIA (ATAN)/CTBP gene, have divergent uses including pulp and paper production, bioproduct production, and as pathogen-resistant crops.

  • Patent number: 10246719
Abstract: This disclosure provides genetically modified plants having desirable levels of sugar release and syringyl/guaiacyl (S/G) ratio; methods of genetically modifying plants to modulate sugar release and S/G ratio; and uses of such plants. The inventors have determined that genetic modification of a laccase gene (LAC2) from Populus, encoded by locus Potri.008G064000 resulted in transgenic Populus trees with changes in syringyl/guaiacyl ratios as well as altered sugar release phenotypes. Plants with altered sugar release, and S/G ratio, based on modulation of the expression or activity of the LAC2 gene, have divergent uses including pulp and paper production, and biofuel and bioproducts production.

  • Patent number: 9766663
Abstract: A hinge for component attachment is described. In at least some implementations, a kickstand is rotatably attached to a mobile computing device. The kickstand can be rotated to various positions to provide support for different orientations of the computing device. In at least some implementations, hinges are employed to attach a kickstand to a mobile computing device. One example hinge utilizes preset hinge stops that enable the kickstand to be placed at different preset positions. Another example hinge exerts pressure on an edge of the kickstand, providing stability and vibration dampening to the kickstand.
