  • Patent number: 5580550
Abstract: Cosmetic compositions comprising an emulsion, preferably an aqueous emulsion, including at least one cosmetic resin material, e.g. a hydrocarbon resin such as polyisobutylene, are made by direct emulsification of the resin without a solvent or carrier therefor. The direct emulsification may be achieved by a special mixing regime, with particular emulsifiers. The absence of solvent or carrier for the resin material avoids product thinning and gives several manufacturing and processing advantages.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 27, 1995
Date of Patent: December 3, 1996
Assignee: Chesebrough-Pond's USA Co., Division of Conopco, Inc.
Inventors: Anthony D. Gough, Joanne M. De Groot, Jeffrey Price
  • Patent number: 5525332
Abstract: A cosmetic composition, especially for providing a conditioning benefit to hair, is provided incorporating an azlactone-functionalized copolymer consisting of vinyl azlactone and methacryloyl polydimethylsiloxane monomers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 12, 1995
Date of Patent: June 11, 1996
    Assignee: Chesebrough-Pond's USA Co.
Inventors: Anthony D. Gough, Ezat Khoshdel, Robert Polywka
  • Patent number: 5523079
Abstract: A hair styling composition for imparting body and/or stylability to hair, comprises(a) at least one of surfactant, conditioning agent and water or other volatile solvent, together with(b) a per-alk(en)yl hydrocarbon material.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 6, 1995
Date of Patent: June 4, 1996
Assignee: Chesebrough-Pond's USA Co., Division of Conopco, Inc.

  • Patent number: 5523080
Abstract: A method for treating hair to impart thereto a conditioning benefit, the method involving applying to the hair an azlactone-functionalised copolymer consisting of vinyl azlactone and methacryloyl polydimethylsiloxane monomers; and allowing the copolymer to chemically bond through nucleophilic reaction of the azlactone onto the hair, the monomers of the copolymer being present in amounts sufficient to achieve both bonding to the hair and imparting conditioning properties.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 17, 1994
Date of Patent: June 4, 1996
Assignee: Chesebrough-Pond's USA Co., Division of Conopco, Inc.
