    Abstract: A process for producing light color rosins ester resin, preferably based on tall rosin, is described. The process is conducted in the presence of less than 10 weight % of an acid functional organic compound and avoids the need for use of a stoichiometric excess of rosin acid, or a stoichiometric excess of polyol hydroxyl groups. The process allows for the use of lower colored or darker tall oil rosin in the production of low color rosin esters.
