  • Publication number: 20180075720
Abstract: The present invention relates to an emergency alert system that triggers a distress event that is automatically managed by a community security system. The emergency alert system is activated through users' mobile devices and initiates communication with the community security system. Management by the community security system includes receiving the GPS location of the mobile device, recording a continuous stream of audio and video from the panic user's mobile application, notifying potential responders or groups of responders in the vicinity of the panic alert and, among other things, activating localized visual and audible deterrents present in surrounding private security systems, intelligently directing community CCTV cameras to record the distress event and issuing notifications to the closest community members for immediate responses, as well as other responders or group notification members.

  • Publication number: 20150056701
Abstract: The present invention relates to a cell culture medium additive comprising a xanthan polysaccharide and a mannan polysaccharide, such as a glucomannan or a galactomannan, that supports the growth of cells in suspension, and to a cell culture medium containing the additive. More particularly, but not exclusively, the present invention relates to a cell culture medium additive that supports the formation of multicellular bodies such as spheroids, and prevents sedimentation of cells without adversely affecting the physical properties of the cell culture medium.

  • Patent number: 8337785
Abstract: A device (1) for housing a scientific sample comprising at least one sample well (2) and an on-board buffering substance (3) wherein the onboard buffering substance (3) at least partly surrounds the sample well (2). The on-board buffering substance (3) may be in the form of a matrix, such as a gel-like matrix. The device (1) may further comprise an insulating means. Also described is a substance for use in culturing and/or assaying a sample whereby the substance provides atmospheric and thermal buffering. The invention further provides a lid for a single-well or multi-well sample plate, the lid being configured to facilitate delivery of a sample through the lid into a well, and for sealing the well. The lid comprises moveable portions (52, 53) that have at least one orifice (54, 57) formed through the moveable portions (52, 53) such that a conduit is formed by alignment of the orifices (54, 57) of both the lid portions (52, 53).

  • Patent number: 8265488
Abstract: An electromagnetic transmission and reception system comprises a transmitter section and a receiver section. The transmitter section has a first signal source, a second signal source at a lower frequency than the first signal source, and means for generating from the first and second signal sources a plurality of signals with fixed frequency spacing derived from the second signal source frequency. One or more pairs of the plurality of signals are selected, and for the or each pair, the signals of the pair are combined to derive an output signal having a frequency derived from the difference between the frequencies of the signals of the pair. The receiver section combines a received signal, which comprises a received version of the output signal, with a local oscillator signal for frequency down-conversion of the received signal. This local oscillator signal is generated by the transmitter section.

  • Patent number: 7680732
Abstract: A system and method for initiating and processing banking deposits. In a preferred embodiment, the system is maintained by a financial institution such as a bank and the bank's customers access the system through the Internet. The system provides a Graphical User Interface that allows the customers to view the bank's current rates for a plurality of currencies and a plurality of time periods. The customer selects the desired rate on the interface and the system automatically generates a deal ticket that is presented to the customer. The customer submits the deal ticket for trading. A confirmation of the trade occurs online and real time. The system has further utilities for the customers to view archives of previous deals, establish profiles and preferences and chat with bank representatives. The system further includes state of the art security in order to ensure the safety and confidentiality of the banking transactions.
