Patent number: 10480159Abstract: A kinetic energy recovery system (KERS) for a machine having a swing motor and/or an actuator includes a hydraulic motor/pump that can output pressurized fluid for operating at least one of: the swing motor and the actuator. A first shaft of the hydraulic motor/pump can be rotated by fluid returning from at least one of: the swing motor and the actuator back to the hydraulic motor/pump. Further, the KERS also includes a flywheel that can selectively couple with the first shaft with the help of a first clutch. The flywheel stores drive power generated by the hydraulic motor/pump from the return flow of fluid when the first clutch couples the flywheel with the first shaft of the hydraulic motor/pump. A gearing arrangement is coupled to the flywheel and can selectively engage with a second shaft associated with a prime mover of the machine with the help of a second clutch.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 2017Date of Patent: November 19, 2019Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Anthony Dean McNealy, Corey Lee Gorman, Shogo Tada, Rustin Glenn Metzger, Hideki Nakajima, Justin Douglas Speichinger, Shinya Ohmura

Publication number: 20170061689Abstract: A system for displaying machine surroundings to an operator in a cab of the machine may include at least one outward-facing camera mounted on the machine. The at least one outward-facing camera may be configured to generate image data for an actual environment surrounding the machine. The system may also include at least one operator-facing camera mounted within the cab of the machine. The at least one operator-facing camera may be configured to determine gaze attributes of the operator. A sensor may be mounted on the machine and configured to generate object data regarding detection and ranging of an object in the actual environment.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 24, 2015Publication date: March 2, 2017Applicant: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Peter Joseph PETRANY, Douglas Jay HUSTED, Rodrigo Lain SANCHEZ, Anthony Dean McNEALY

Publication number: 20090003138Abstract: A data acquisition system is disclosed. The data acquisition system includes one or more remote machines, and an off-board system in communication with the one or more remote machines. The off-board system is configured to display a calendar interface having a plurality of selectable entries each corresponding to a different period of time, receive a user's selection of one of the plurality of selectable entries corresponding to a desired period of time, receive a user's selection of one of the one or more remote machines, and receive a user's selection of one of a plurality of available operational parameters monitored by the selected one of the one or more remote machines. The off-board system is further configured to update a configuration of the selected one of the one or more remote machines based on the desired period of time and the selected one of a plurality of available operational parameters.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 29, 2007Publication date: January 1, 2009Inventors: Aaron Michael Donnelli, Daniel Craig Wood, Anthony Dean McNealy, Alan Lewis Ferguson
