Enabling an on-premises resource to be exposed to a public cloud application securely and seamlessly
Patent number: 10044756Abstract: An application deployed in a public cloud is enabled to access an on-premises resource securely and without requiring additional ports on a firewall. A pair of security gateways is instantiated, one at the cloud, and another located on-premises. Each gateway can access information that is necessary to locate and establish a secure connection to the on-premises resource. In response to a determination that the application needs to access the on-premises resource, the data set is used to locate the resource. A communication request is then issued from the cloud gateway to the on-premises gateway over a socket-based communication channel established between the gateways. The communication request is sent over an HTTP-based protocol such that the application is able to access the on-premises resource without requiring an additional IP address/port to be defined at the firewall. Proxied connectivity is then enabled from the application to the on-premises resource.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 2015Date of Patent: August 7, 2018Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Linwood Hugh Overby, Jr., Anthony Ffrench, Barry Mosakowski, Adolfo Francisco Rodriguez -

Patent number: 9697047Abstract: A second memory allocator receives a request to allocate memory from a second process of the second memory allocator executing on a computer, and determines that memory for allocation to the second process is not available from a memory hoard of the second memory allocator. The second memory allocator determines that memory for allocation to the second process is not available from an operating system of the computer, and transmits the request to release memory to a first memory allocator. The first memory allocator of a first process executing on the computer receives the request from the second memory allocator executing on the computer to release memory. Responsive to the request from the second memory allocator to release memory, the first memory allocator releases hoarded memory previously hoarded for allocation to the first process.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 2012Date of Patent: July 4, 2017Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventor: Anthony Ffrench

Patent number: 9672352Abstract: Embodiments relate to an isolated program execution environment. An aspect includes receiving, by the isolated program execution environment on a computer comprising a processor and a memory, a request to run a program. Another aspect includes wrapping program code corresponding to the program as a function. Another aspect includes cloning a real global object of the isolated program execution environment to create a fake global object. Another aspect includes passing the fake global object to the function. Another aspect includes executing the function, such that the function executes the program.Type: GrantFiled: November 11, 2016Date of Patent: June 6, 2017Assignee: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Anthony Ffrench, Libra C. Huang, Timothy J. Smith, Chih-Wen Su, Yi-Hong Wang
