  • Patent number: 6301860
Abstract: A product sampler package for insertion or binding into a periodical, catalog, brochure, or other literature includes a composite carrier card formed by affixing a planar support frame to a bottom carrier sheet of the carrier card to thereby form a shallow well, and a top carrier sheet of the composite carrier card affixed to the bottom carrier sheet and covering the support frame. The top carrier sheet may have an opening positioned over the well so as to be surrounded by the support frame. The package is completed by affixing a product sampler unit containing a sample of a fluid or volatile personal care product on top of the composite carrier card. Packaged in this manner, the support frame enhances the burst strength of the sampler unit by absorbing compressive forces exerted across the plane of the sampler.

  • Patent number: 6287652
Abstract: A sampler package for fluid cosmetics, creams, gels, and the like having a liquid solvent base includes a transparent composite laminate sealed with a composite laminate having a foil barrier layer. The sealed composite laminates form a pouch in which the cosmetic sample is contained. The transparent composite laminate is preferably adhesively laminated with either a biaxially oriented PVDC film or a polychlorotrifluoroethylene film as the moisture vapor barrier layer. The moisture permeability rate of the barrier film is at most 0.065 g/100 in2/24 hrs @100° F.,90% RH. Use of such transparent films as the barrier laminate permits the sampler package to be formed with a transparent window through which the color, texture, etc. of the sampler product may be viewed.

  • Patent number: 6190730
Abstract: A cosmetic sampler package comprising a slurry of cosmetic and solvent which is printed onto a transparent or translucent film overlay. The film overlay includes opaque portions printed in the negative image of the desired design on the surface opposite that of the cosmetic, so as to form a display window for viewing the cosmetic sample. A perimeter adhesive may be printed on the film overlay around the sample and a protective backing is sealed to the film.

  • Patent number: 6119704
Abstract: An applicator unit providing a plurality of disposable die cut applicators is made by adhering an applicator material to a backing substrate and die cutting the desired applicator shapes. A protective film is then adhered to the die cut applicator piece to protect the applicators from soilage or contamination. The applicator unit can easily be inserted into magazines, brochures, etc., along with a cosmetic sampler or a plurality of cosmetic samplers without adding substantial bulk to the carrier medium. In this manner, one applicator unit permits a consumer to sample from a plurality of cosmetic samplers and also to apply multiple applications of a cosmetic from a cosmetic sampler.

A perimeter adhesive may be printed on the film overlay around the sample and a protective backing is sealed to the film. The entire surface of the protective backing which faces the cosmetic sample is covered with a texturized layer of flocked fabric fibers so that the backing may be used as an applicator for the cosmetic sample.

  • Patent number: 5799675
Abstract: A consumer product sampler including a base (e.g. a barrier laminate constructed of multiple layers of polymers and/or foil and/or paper) onto which a unit dose of product (e.g. a volatile make-up substance) is screen printed. A cover formed of either a barrier laminate or a clear plastic sheet is sealed to the base at its periphery and overlays the product. If the cover is a barrier laminate, the outer surface can be provided with printed matter identifying the cosmetic or other substance contained in the sampler. Depending upon the product to be sampled, the cover can either be heat sealed to the base or sealed to the base with a perimeter adhesive. If the product to be sampled is a liquid or semi-liquid substance (e.g. water or solvent based), the base is preferably formed of a thermoformable plastic or a paperboard laminated with a barrier laminate and is provided with one or more debossed/embossed wells or cut-outs into which the product to be sampled is screen printed.

  • Patent number: 5690130
Abstract: A cosmetic sampler with an integral applicator in which the unit dose of cosmetic is screen printed onto a paper base. To prevent off-set of the cosmetic sample and to protect the integral applicator during packaging and handling, a protective thin film overlay is laminated to a perimeter adhesive printed on the paper base around the cosmetic and the applicator. The applicator is glued as a laminate to the base and die cut in a desired shape, flocked to the base and die cut, or flocked into a debossed/embossed well formed in the base with the cosmetic sample screen printed directly thereover. The sampler with integral applicator of the present invention can be used for sampling unit doses of powders, creams, lipsticks, fragrances, pharmaceuticals, lotions, and sundries.

  • Patent number: 5647941
Abstract: A cosmetic sampler formed by screen printing a slurry of cosmetic powder and solvent onto a paper base. To prevent off-set of the cosmetic sample during packaging and handling, a protective thin film overlay is laminated to a perimeter adhesive printed on the paper base around the cosmetic. The paper base may be replaced by a pressure sensitive adhesive stock to form a unit dose or single application of a cosmetic that can be applied as a label to any desired surface. In other embodiments, a non-pressure sensitive removable adhesive is used in a two-layer removable label construction or a three-layer coupon construction. The sampler can also be provided with or without the protective overlay in a simple folded hand-out version or as a pad of cosmetic sampler sheets. The sampler can also be used to provide unit doses or single applications of creams, lipsticks, fragrances, pharmaceuticals, lotions, and other high viscosity, waxy materials.

  • Patent number: 5566693
Abstract: A fragrance sampler formed by screen printing a slurry of fragrance and solvent onto a paper base. To prevent offset and release of the fragrance prior to use, a protective thin film overlay is laminated to a perimeter adhesive printed on the paper base around the fragrance sample. The paper base may be replaced by a pressure sensitive adhesive stock to form a unit dose or single application of a fragrance sample that can be applied as a label to any desired surface. In other embodiments, a non-pressure sensitive removable adhesive is used in a two-layer removable label construction or a three-layer coupon construction. The sampler can also be provided with the protective overlay in a simple folded hand-out version or as a pad of fragrance sampler sheets.
