  • Patent number: 5056607
Abstract: A power drill has a mode changing mechanism enabling the drill to be operated selectively in a hammer mode and a non-hammer mode. Pivotally mounted upon an internal partition of the drill is a mode changing mechanism comprising a first rigid limb and a second limb consisting of a leaf spring located in side-by-side relationship with the first limb. The mechanism is pivotable into a first position in which the rigid limb is directly behind the output shaft of the drill so preventing rearward movement of the shaft and enabling the drill to operate in a non-hammer mode, and a second position in which the leaf spring is directly behind the output shaft so allowing rearward movement of the shaft and enabling the drill to operate in a hammer mode.

  • Patent number: 4715732
Abstract: An air cooled bearing assembly for the armature shaft of an electric motor comprises a heat sink with an axial bore and spaced outwardly extending fins along its external surface. The fins are of a greater depth over part of their length and the junction between the parts of different fin depth is round to form a seating for a resilient mounting member. Located in the bore is a bearing sleeve which is an interference fit in the bore.

  • Patent number: 4613781
Abstract: A stator assembly of an electric motor includes a lamination stack, a field coil, an end cap having a plastics body fixed to the lamination stack, a brush box made of electrically conducting material, mounted on the plastics body, housing brushes resiliently biased towards the axis of the assembly, and a plurality of electrical conductors in the form of strips of predetermined configuration located on the plastics body for making electrical connections between components of the motor. The electrical conductors include a first conductor extending from the brush box; a second conductor extending from a termination of the field coil and a conducting means, which incorporates an inductance, connects the first and second conductors. The inductance in the connection is altered by altering the inductance of the conducting means. The first conductor is wrapped around the brush box to give a good and reliable electrical connection.

  • Patent number: 4470439
Abstract: A guide system for guiding the movement of an article such as a router includes a carrier for a guide plate, an arrangement for coupling the carrier to the router and means for enabling the location of the carrier relative to the coupling arrangement to be finely adjusted. This fine adjustment is provided in addition to the coarse adjustment between the router body and the coupling arrangement that it is known to employ.

  • Patent number: 4445811
Abstract: A tool or machine in which the relative position of two components is adjustable has setting means operable in a first mode to set the two components approximately to a desired setting and in a second mode to adjust the approximate setting accurately to a required setting. A tool for routing has a base plate and a depth stop comprising a post extending upwardly from the base plate, a first collar movable along the post, a screw thread on the outer surface of the first collar, and a second collar whose bore is screw-threaded screwed over the first collar. The post includes a surface in the form of a toothed rack, the first collar has a bore one portion of whose surface is formed to engage one or more teeth on the rack to lock the first collar in a selected one of a number of predetermined positions along the post and a spring resiliently biases the first collar into engagement with the toothed rack. A scale operating with a fiducial mark is provided.

  • Patent number: 4317428
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling metal coatings on wire, strip, mesh or the like, emerging substantially vertically from metal baths, comprising an electromagnetic device adapted for situation at or below the point of emergence of the wire, strip, mesh or the like from the molten bath, said electromagnetic device providing an alternating electromagnetic field generated by single phase alternating electric current, and the positioning being such that the point of emergence is always within the electromagnetic field.

  • Patent number: 4228200
Abstract: A method for controlling the coating of wires, strips or the like, emerging from molten metal baths, involving subjecting the wire to a single stationary, alternating electromagnetic field generated by an electromagnetic device positioned at or below the point of emergence such that the point of emergence is always within the electromagnetic field. The frequency and/or current for generating the field may be adjustable, and the field generated by either parallel or transverse to the wire, strip or the like. The wire, strip or the like may pass through, or adjacent, the electromagnetic device. A neutral or reducing atmosphere may be provided within a chamber situated at the point of emergence and the point of emergence covered with particles inert to the environment. Alternatively the emergence area, may be covered by a confined or unconfined bed of oil charcoal.
