  • Patent number: 4748931
Abstract: A poultry or meat cooking timer has a hollow barrel with an open top slidably receiving a stem with an inner end immersed in a fusible holding material in the barrel to normally hold the stem within the barrel against the force of a spring in the barrel urging the stem outwardly therefrom. The stem has an integral tapered flange thereabout that is force fitted through an inner barrel ridge near the top of the barrel bore and the stem has a large top with a substantially flat surface for engaging a barrel flange for positively sealing the stem and barrel in normal retracted stem position to prevent intrusion of foreign substances into the barrel bore prior to stem release by the fusible material at a predetermined temperature.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 2, 1986
Date of Patent: June 7, 1988
    Assignee: Volk Development Company
    Inventor: Anthony J. Volk
  • Patent number: 4739538
Abstract: The present invention provides a unitary flexible retainer for holding the legs of eviscerated poultry tightly against the body of the fowl over the rear body opening and includes a central locking member cooperating with straps for positively securing the poultry legs tightly against each of the hocks thereof, together with anchors into kidney openings in the poultry backbone.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 24, 1987
Date of Patent: April 26, 1988
    Assignee: Volk Development Company

  • Patent number: 4653146
Abstract: A poultry leg retainer formed of resiliently deformable material has a bottom cross beam with upturned ends for lodgement in the kidney openings of poultry and resiliently extensible legs extending upwardly from the beam to a three dimensional basket configuration for engagement with the hocks of poultry legs for holding such legs against the body of poultry.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 21, 1986
Date of Patent: March 31, 1987
    Inventor: Anthony J. Volk
  • Patent number: 4615075
Abstract: The present invention provides an integral retainer for trussing the legs of eviscerated poultry including an upper bridle portion of resiliently deflectable strips adapted to fit about and across the hocks of poultry legs and connected by resiliently extensible legs to a rigid beam member having upturned pointed ends adapted for insertion in kidney holes in the backbone structure of poultry to anchor the retainer.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 8, 1985
Date of Patent: October 7, 1986
    Inventor: Anthony J. Volk
  • Patent number: 4421053
Abstract: A disposable cooking thermometer has a hollow barrel with a neck therein containing a stem that is spring loaded to move out of an open upper end of the barrel and is held within the barrel by a fusable material about an inner stem end in spaced relation below the barrel neck and about an internal barrel projection below the neck so that initial softening of the fusable material releases the stem to move a first predetermined distance whereat the material engages the barrel underneath the neck until the material melts to release the stem to move a second predetermined distance.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 18, 1981
Date of Patent: December 20, 1983
    Inventor: Anthony J. Volk
  • Patent number: 4313610
Abstract: An improved truck or undercarriage for a skate and adapted for injection molding has an elongated plastic body and a pair of traverse plastic axle elements with grooved projections through which mounting bolts extend to flexibly clamp the elements against depending V-shaped projections on the body for limited axle pivoting.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 6, 1980
Date of Patent: February 2, 1982

  • Patent number: 4293977
Abstract: A poultry leg retainer formed of a single elongated piece of material that is limitedly resiliently deformable, has a central U-shaped portion adapted to fit in the creases of poultry hocks with extensions to substantially right angle bends with outwardly extending shoulders curving through substantially 90.degree. in a plane inclined to the central portion and to the extensions with hooked legs depending from the shoulders to more positively grip and secure poultry legs to the carcass while admitting of bagging trussed fowl without puncture.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 3, 1979
Date of Patent: October 13, 1981
Inventors: Anthony J. Volk, Henry J. Volk
  • Patent number: 4216565
Abstract: A machine for automatically stripping the meat from a turkey leg or the like, has retaining means for gripping the leg and leg tendons adjacent the hocks and radially disposed stripping knives are driven longitudinally of the leg while being radially adjusted for following the bone contour to strip the meat from the bone and tendons.

  • Patent number: 4082000
Abstract: An improved structure for a disposable meat and poultry thermometer has a unitary top barrel closure extending laterally outward from a barrel beneath an indicating stem latched in storage position by a prong on the stem engaging the top closure. Lifting the outer end of the stem releases the latch so that a compression spring within the barrel urges an inner axial stem extension into a front barrel bore containing a material having a predetermined softening temperature so that the stem moves inwardly of the barrel as the inner barrel end temperature increases. Upper stem markings indicate thermometer temperature preferably in terms of the degree to which meat or the like is cooked.
