  • Publication number: 20150098554
Abstract: A method is provided for processing emergency service calls from a user device to a PSAP, the user device having an associated line number and being configured to originate calls from fixed and mobile access networks. The method includes determining whether a call from the user device originates from a home location in a fixed access network. When the call is determined to have originated from the home location in the fixed access network, the call is routed to the PSAP, where a location of the user device is determined based on the Automatic Number Identification (ANI) included in signaling associated with the call. When the call is determined not to have originated from the home location in the fixed access network, adding pseudo-ANI to signaling associated with the call and routing the call to the PSAP, where the location of the user device is determined based on the pANI.

  • Patent number: 8812728
Abstract: A method implemented by a proxy server is provided for routing requests for a Location-to-Service Translation (LoST) service without traversing a forest node structure. The method includes receiving a request for the LoST service initiated by a client, the request including a location of a user device and a requested service; identifying an authoritative LoST server configured to service the requested service and bounded by a service boundary that includes the location included in the request; and directly forwarding the request to the identified authoritative LoST server, without routing through any other LoST server.

  • Patent number: 8689277
Abstract: A method of providing a location of a target device to an application implementing a location based service includes receiving a request for a location of the target device from the application at a location server, the request including a location reference having a user reference referring to user information corresponding to the target device and stored in at least one data source. The method further includes retrieving the user information from the at least one data source using the user reference, determining the location of the target device based at least in part on the retrieved user information, and providing the determined location of the target device to the application.

  • Patent number: 8462769
Abstract: A system and method for creating a location uniform resource identifier (“URI”) for determining the location of a target device. A location request may be received for a target device. Location context information may be collected for the target device including starting information, validating information and policy information. This collected location context information may be encrypted in a location information server and converted to a form compatible with URI syntax. A location URI may then be constructed as a function of the converted information.

  • Patent number: 8391884
Abstract: A system and method for handling a location request for a target device using a location uniform resource identifier (“URI”). A location request may be received for a target device from a requesting entity, the target device having a location context information represented by a location URI and including starting information, initial validating information and policy information. The form of the location URI may be verified by a location information server (“LIS”), the form including at least an encrypted context string. This string may be extracted and decrypted by the LIS and it may be determined whether the request can continue as a function of the policy information. If the request can continue, then an estimated location of the target device may be determined as a function of the starting information. Additional validating information may be collected and correlated the initial validating information.

  • Patent number: 8301160
Abstract: A system and method for assisting the H-SLP is selecting a V-SLP using the HELD client of a SET. The SET receives identity information from an access network regarding associated LIS. The SET relays this information as well as measurements taken of the wireless network to the H-SLP. If the H-SLP does not contain enough information to determine a location estimate, the H-SLP uses the identity information from the access network to find an associated SLP that may serve as a V-SLP. A request using roaming location protocol may then be transmitted from the H-SLP to the V-SLP for location assistance.

  • Patent number: 8290510
Abstract: A system and method for enhancing a SUPL session where a SET with a HELD client discovers an LIS of an access network and provides information received from the LIS or plurality of LISs to the SLP. The SLP determines the trustworthiness of the location information and estimates a location. The degree to which the SLP uses the location information is a function of the trustworthiness of the LIS and restraints on the location request. The location information may include a URI or domain name or other indication of location.

  • Patent number: 8239483
Abstract: A system and method for determining the location of a target device. A location request may be received for a target device, and a plurality of parameters determined that identify the target device. A most likely path may be selected from a plurality of paths to produce a location of the target device, each path having one or more of the plural determined parameters as an input and one or more measurement results as an output. Measurement information may be collected on the most likely path as a function of one or more of the determined parameters to provide the one or more measurement results. Location information may then be derived for the target device as a function of the one or more measurement results, the derivation utilizing a location determination function that evaluates ones of the plural paths. An estimated location of the target device may then be determined as a function of the respective location information for the selected path.

  • Publication number: 20120163222
Abstract: A system and method for estimating a location of a wireless device receiving signals from plural nodes of a Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (“WiMAX”) communication system. Contention or non-contention based ranging may be allocated to the wireless device, and a first signal may be transmitted from at least one of the plural nodes to the wireless device. Tipping information may then be transmitted to one or more location measurement units, and a ranging signal transmitted from the wireless device in response to the first signal. Uplink signal time of arrival measurements of the ranging signal may be performed as a function of the tipping information, and a location of the wireless device estimated as a function of the determined uplink measurements. Downlink signal measurements of first signals received by the wireless device from the plural nodes may also be determined and a location of the wireless device determined from the uplink and/or downlink measurements.

  • Publication number: 20110173230
Abstract: A method of providing a location of a target device to an application implementing location based services includes receiving a request for a location resource from the target device at a first location server and generating the location resource in response to the request, where an external domain to which the location resource is attributed corresponds to a second location server different from the first location server. The location resource is provided to the target device, the target device providing the location resource to the application, which subsequently requests the location of the target device from the second location server using the location resource. A query is received from the second location server requesting the location of the target device, the query including the location resource. The target device is identified using the location resource.

  • Publication number: 20110170693
Abstract: A method of providing a location of a target device includes receiving a first location reference request from the target device at a first location server, generating a first location reference in response to the first request, and including the first location reference in a second location reference request to a second location server. The second location server generates a second location reference in response to the second request, where the second location reference is stateless and refers to the first location reference. The second location reference is received from the second location server, and provided to the target device to be provided to an application requesting location information of the target device from the second location server. The stateless second location reference includes information necessary for the second location server to serve a request for the location of the target device without maintaining state specific to the location reference.

Abstract: A system and method for determining the location of a target device attached to an access network connected to a location server, the location server having a plurality of access networks connected thereto. A location request may be received for a target device whereby the target device is identified as a function of one or more parameters. An access network may be identified from the plurality of access networks to which the target device is attached as a function of the one or more parameters. Each access network in the plurality of access networks connected to the location server may be assigned one or more logical identifiers by which an individual location request may be allocated to the respective access network. An estimated location of the target device may then be determined as a function of the one or more logical identifiers using a location algorithm appropriate for the identified access network.
