  • Patent number: 4045272
Abstract: There is disclosed herein an improved method and apparatus for plastic sealing/bonding in which a wire element is positioned between two interfacing (plastic) pieces to be sealed/bonded together, wherein one or both of said pieces are wholly plastic or contain a plastic component. With the wire sandwiched and retained between the interfacing surfaces, a voltage is applied to the wire for a predetermined time to cause the wire to heat sufficiently to melt both interfacing surfaces and effect a fusion and formation of a bond.

  • Patent number: 3972047
Abstract: A buoy is towed by a submerged submarine through means of an electro-mechanical cable. A cable reel is disposed in the buoy to store an inflatable buoyant cable having a pressure accumulator containing a medium under a given pressure attached to one end of the buoyant cable adjacent the outer surface of the buoy. The other end of the buoyant cable is attached to the cable reel. Through slip rings connected to the cable reel and a conductor connected between the slip rings and the electro-mechanical cable radio communication with a submerged submarine is possible employing the buoyant cable when it is deployed and inflated. An arrangement in the buoy associated with the buoyant cable and the cable reel assists in deploying and retrieving the buoyant cable with the deploying and retrieving of the buoyant cable being under the control of sea pressure acting on the buoyant cable.

  • Patent number: 3972046
Abstract: This antenna arrangement includes a primary buoy connected to the submarine through a first electro-mechanical cable, a secondary buoy carrying an antenna connected to the primary buoy by a second electro-mechanical cable and a system contained within the primary buoy connected to the second cable to automatically control the deploying and the retrieving of the secondary buoy and to provide electrical continuity between the first and second cables. The deployment of the secondary buoy is produced primarily by hydrodynamic forces rather than only hydrostatic forces.

  • Patent number: 3961589
Abstract: The reeling system is contained within a buoy towed by a submerged submarine. The reeling system includes a pressure sealed housing, a cable reel disposed for rotation within the housing and a buoyant cable antenna disposed in an ejecting and retracting relationship with the reel. One end of the cable antenna extends from the housing to the exterior of the buoy. A cylinder-piston arrangement having a sea water inlet and a connection to the housing is responsive to the pressure of the sea water at the inlet to control air pressure in the housing to provide a pressure difference between the air pressure in the housing and the pressure of the sea water on the one end of the cable antenna exterior of the buoy for ejection and retraction of the cable antenna from and into the buoy.
